DIY Inspiration: Felt Projects from FilzFelt

The felt bowls we posted earlier got us thinking about the DIY possibilities of this cozy material. It's great for non-sewers since the edges can be cut without hemming. Etsy shop FilzFelt sells 3mm wool felt by the yard, as well as several finished felt pieces. Browsing their wares, we spotted lots of inspiring projects...

The key to working with felt is to buy thick wool felt rather than the flimsy acrylic kind you often see in craft stores. For more tips on working with felt, as well as additional sources, see this post.

...especially when you can buy thick felt and cut it to size yourself. there's not a lot of design here-and I consider myself a minimalist!

It's $89.50 a yard. That's crazy. It's not made of gold. If she knits and felts it herself, it's still not made of gold.

And it seems all her patrons (3) bought the $1.00/each sample chain set.

Someone bought the table runner. More evidence of the sucker economy. I'd probably sell a hand-felted table runner for about that much. Guess I could charge more!

K T G ~ That's actually close to the going rate for that size and thickness wool felt. Cheapest I've been able to find is $80 a yard.

this is traci, one of the owners of filzfelt, and we appreciate apartment therapy posting about us but i'd just like to clear up some misinformation.

our felt is 100% wool and is imported from germany, where the highest quality wool felt is manufactured. our product is wool felt (not felted wool as one of the comments stated) which is manufactured of wool fibers not a knit that is felted. 100% wool textiles are generally at a higher price point as they're a higher quality item and made from a natural material. cheaper felt is usually acrylic or blends of rayon and many times manufactured in china.

p.s. we're also a new business and have only been selling for a few weeks.

I have personally seen this felt from this company and it is truly wonderful stuff and the color options are incredible, well worth the price.
