Over the weekend, we hit up an estate sale in an 18th floor Lake Shore Drive apartment. Although we didn't walk away with much, the small place had huge effect. An older woman had lived there, with a stunning collection of paintings, sculpture, and hats. Most striking was her love of florals: the kitchen was covered in metallic floral wallpaper...

...on the walls, the ceiling, the cabinets and EVEN THE FRIDGE (no clue how she adhered it). Bold florals are often difficult to live with, but in the spirit of our DIY-themed month, we pulled these vintage-inspired fabrics if you're considering a statement-making project:
Above: Aqua Flowers on Linen ($19):
Aqua, blue, lilac and olive flowers on natural linen background. 44" wide 55% linen, 45% cotton. By Kokka of Japan.
Spice Lamara ($12.95):
Deep gold, red, orange and teal on a brown background. Slubs in the fabric provide a nice texture. 27" vertical and horizontal repeat. 100% slubbed cotton. From Braemore. Treated with a generic soil and stain repellant.
Starburst Alisa ($12.25):
Pink, green, gold and brown flowers and leaves on natural background. Large flower is 12" across. 25-1/4" vertical and 27" horizontal repeat. 100% 7 oz. cotton canvas. From Braemore. Treated with a generic soil and stain repellant.
Wow - That last one would be perfect for my fridge...
