Got a chair you've been meaning to recover? It can be hard looking for fabrics online, since you can't feel the weight of the cloth between your fingers. We've compiled a roundup of patterned heavyweight fabrics...any of these would work for a simple upholstery project. Note that the patterns aren't shown to scale (for example, the Kaivo fabric has a very large repeat). To find more information about pattern sizes, click on the links below.
Left to Right, Top to Bottom:
• Alan Campbell Zig Zag Fabric at Quadrille
• Marimekko Kaivo Fabric (large pattern), $27.50/yard at Repro Depot
• Hotty Dotty Fabric in Ale on Buttercream, $15/yard at Maine Cottage
• Shelter Fabric in Neapolitan, $18.95/yard at Repro Depot
• Etusko Furuya Echino Fabric in Turquoise Dots, $18.50/yard at Purl
• Alexander Henry Multi Stripe, $13.50/yard at Purl
• Waverly Essence Fabric in Sunset, $22.99/yard at Joann Fabrics
• Waverly Simplicity Spa Fabric, $22.99/yard at Joann Fabrics
• Amy Butler's Forest Fabric, $18.60/yard at Purl
• Joel Dewberry Aqua Chestnut Branches, $8.99/yard at HomesteadHearth
• Eames Small Dot Fabric, $92/yard at Eames Fabric
• Alexander Girard Quatrefoil Fabric, $95/yard at Eames Fabric
Does anyone know of fabric similar to the Eames dot that is NOT $92 a yard, but with same retro graphic feel? More lightweight is ok. Thanks.

chairgal, check out alexander henry. our www.tonicliving.com.
Is the Joel Dewberry considered upholstery-weight? I have the sparrows fabric from his Aviary line, and it feels like quilting weight to me...?

Selena, the Joel Dewberry fabrics are listed as "Home Decor" weight which usually means they will work for upholstery or drapes. The site shows a "home decor ideas" section with inspiration for home projects, but you're right in pointing out that it's not a super-heavy fabric. Might not be good for a sofa or something that gets lots of heavy wear.
