Oh, we're halfway there, Whoa-oh, livin' on a prayer! This week marks the half way point for those of us decluttering our homes, our rooms and our lives in general. For some it may feel as though we are just now finding our groove and for others the road ahead may seem a bit longer than they had hoped. This week we are focusing on the living room and eating at home 3 times. Click through the jump to see the full details of our homework this week!

seshat_ has a great new paint job on an amazing landingstrip. What a great piece!

For those doing the Deep Treatment, had us take a look at the media we bring into and store in our homes.
This is no small task as the amount of media we are bombarded with is astonishing. It takes a strong will and great determination to really decide which things we can live without. But we know this will be a great week for everyone participating!

Deep Treatment:

  • Clean up the Living Room and related closets
  • Declutter books and media
  • Cancel your catalogues
  • Empty your Outbox
  • Consider increasing or decreasing color in each room
  • Consider increasing or decreasing hardness or softness in each room.
  • Cook three meals at home
  • Send out your invitations

heymomo has made great strides in getting last week's landingstrip renovation taken care of. This is a great site to come home to.

For those of you doing the One-Room Workout, we know the hours you may have logged already trying to find the right pieces of furniture or accessories for your spaces that fit your budget. If you aren't finding what you want, wait. We believe it’s better to buy less furniture and live with a room that's a little bare until you’re able to find or purchase the best quality.

    One Room Workout:

  • Begin your shopping list and enter all prices in a spreadsheet.
  • Consider the scope of the work to be done
  • Consider hiring a professioal organizer
  • Visit a paint store to collect samples

This recession is hitting me hard, which means I'm staying in a lot more, working on my home. I've made some great strides and don't feel guilty for not socializing. I'll put up some photos tonight.

I am having a hard time getting rid of things in my Outbox. It's so frustrating to try & sell/give things away yet get no response (Craiglist, Freecycle). So they just stay there... taking up space.

jenny!: Take your unwanted items to Goodwill or Salvation Army if you are unable to sell them. Everything you donate is tax deductible and if you use something like Turbo Tax to do you taxes it will help you figure out how much each item is worth. I've been doing this for over 5 years now and it really makes a difference!

Jenny! I post my stuff on craigslist, and when it doesn't sell, I put it in the free section. It's worked for everything so far. It's like there is nothing someone won't take if it's free.

I'm quite a bit behind too. Our place is in need of the extra deep treatment. During week one, we came up with 48 needed repairs, some big, some small. With so many repairs, there isn't a lot of money or time left for the "fun" stuff. Have bought some paint for our kitchen, landing strip and dining room. Plan is to finish painting before Thanksgiving so will post photos soon.
