Fall Colors Contest: Enforcer!

10-26-colorgot.jpgDear Readers,

Because we realize there has been some confusion over certain parts of our Fall Colors Contest, we wanted to set things straight asap. If you have any more questions, please attach it to this post.

1. We will be posting entries until October 31st as well as a few on the weekends so that we can get to 60 submissions per site by then.

2. We will have 12 finalists (not 10).

3. Our 12 finalists are chosen by running all your votes through our computer brains. We are fully aware of some hacks to the system and will do our very best to offset them (we're breaking knees).

4. Finalists will be chosen on the merit of reader's votes alone from all of the four city sites, and will be selected irrespective of location.

5. The finals will be judged entirely by our 6 judges (to be announced soon), though readers are free to comment and influence the judges as best they can (not easy).

has anybody else had this problem: a number of times when I go to vote I get an error message that reads "User doesn't support survey cookies survey_check1160664813-20196' at Bitter/SurveyCookie.pm line 32"

And usually, after I've voted on something, anything, when I return to that entry the current tally is shown, but recently I've apparently had the option to vote again, which seems like quite a glitch.

And just how are votes tallied anyway?

Hey everybody,
Janel and I are the messengers, as all voting procedures are being decided in NYC. Know that AT is aware of the glitches involved and is figuring out the best process. We will get your questions answered asap!!

Awww, cut em some slack guys. Really this is supposed to be fun, right? I know there is a sweet gift certificate in it for the winner - but is it really worth all the ugly stuff going down? Life isn't fair. That's life. Just keep decorating and enjoy it the best you can. One day, you too will win a contest.

And for goodness sake, don't forget about karma.

What about those entries that get posted on the last few days ... how can they possibly have as many votes as someone who was displayed early on?

GOOD POINT SR - and also-
is it that whoever has the most friends wins?
I have seen some entries with over 100 "Insta-Finalist" votes in the first 10 minutes.

For those that got honest votes....not to fair.

If you received an email after submitting, saying everything was honky dory, will your entry be posted for sure? would you have been informed that you submitted after 60 for your region had already been received???

I have the same questions as those above.
I too, noticed that those who posted earlier obviously have more total votes. So, does that mean you will be doing percentages as opposed to the actual numbers?
Also, as Christine pointed out, it's obvious that some entries have more votes for "insta-finalist" just because they have more friends who they've enlisted help from. It seems like others also have websites or blogs where they draw in more votes from their communities. How will you be taking this into consideration when choosing the 12 finalists?

Did submissions get e-mail confirmations of receipt? I sent mine (for the east-coast entries) on Oct 16 and haven't heard nothin' back nor seen nothin' up.

And same question as Christine -- how do you know if you're under the 60-count cut-off?

Hi:

Back in the beginning of this contest there seemed to be something strange going on with the "No Way Jose" votes on the Chicago site. I saw a couple of entries get about 50 negative votes in 10 minutes. I was looking at one and went back to show it to my husband and suddenly it had lots more negative votes. Invariably you know this, but I'd hate to see anyone get knocked out unfairly.

Thanks,
em
