apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

#10- Vik's Richness and Depth

Name: Vik
Location: Chicago
Type: 1 bedroom condo, owned

Why I use color: To me, colors add richness and depth to a place. Whether it's a soft cream or a bright green, I prefer some color versus no color. Having lived in apartments for several years with white walls and light carpeting, any place that i have owned since then has had some color.

2 good color tips:

1. Make sure to use the right primer when using bold colors.

2. If you are thinking of painting a room, type in the color name on popular sites like google or flickr to find pictures or rooms using that color.

2 good color resources:

1. Model homes / condos for new construction developments

2. Nature

vik, followed your progress over at Live Modern. Was waiting for another update on how the finished project looked. Glad to see some other rooms coming together also! LOVED what you had done to the living room area. Does this room also have the cork floors?

Dave H,

Thanks. Still waiting to finish up the kitchen / living room. Have been looking for an affordable stainless steel fabricator and kitchen person to hook up and install some appliances.

And yes, the room does have cork floors as well.

Will have a livemodern update probably in a month or two once the kitchen is finished.

Loving the cross behind your bed. What is it exactly?

Maryam,

The cross is a painting by Truman Couture. I have a few of his pieces.

the artists website can be found at:

really a cool uniquely designed website.

Nice colors. Cool thing over your bed. :) Interested more in another post stating you have cork floors?? I just installed them throughout my 1800 sq ft house in Minneapolis. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them!! Do you have cork floors, too? I have never heard of anyone else w/cork except in the kitchen. Do tell.

Elle,

I do have cork floors throughout in my 1200 sq. ft. condo - love them. They're softer than wood and don't creak like wood floors do.

Link to blog is in my name, so click on that and you can see them.

Thanks for the pics, Vik! They look awesome!! So do mine!! ;) I love that seamless look! Though my floor is lighter colored than yours...the things you mentioned...softer to walk on, etc. are all the reasons I chose cork, as well. I also read somewhere, cork floors have a long life-span. They have found in many European castles...the marble flooring has long since crumbled away, but the cork floors are still in mint condition! I figured, if it's good enough for a 250 year old European castle, it's good enough for me!! :) ENJOY!!

Great painting on top of dresser. I was wondering where u got the red things in the black vase from?

Reggie,

those are bamboo straw sticks - from IKEA in the vase section...very inexpensive (under $10)
