apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

#23 - Karin's Studio of the South

Name: Karin
Location: Birmingham, AL
Type: 2 bedroom apartment, rented

Why I use color:I like to use color to inspire, relax, recharge, and be creative. One room I use to create paintings in and one I use to sleep in so the colors relate to how I want to feel in each room-- inspired and creative or relaxed and recharged.

2 good color tips:

1. Good color becomes great color with proper light.

2. Movable color is a good idea. I like to prop up art instead of hanging it so it looks like it could move at any moment and change the look of a room.

2 good color resources:

1. Start with your favorite color. I've never met a blue I didn't like so I used that as a starting point and went from there.

2. Ask a friend who's style you like to help you.

Cool, an Alabama entry! I love the new diversity of entrants.

I like the blue mirror.

Might be a bad photo, might be the jarring proportions, but I really don't see this in the running even if I like some of the color combos. Guess the woods are one reason it isn't jibing for me.

yeah - there's a lack of symmetry (jarring proportions?) and the photo lighting doesn't do this entry any favors.
there really isn't enough color here for this contest.

Grade: F. Fine for living in it. Flop as an entry.

I think my shower curtain is made of the same fabric as your curtains!

LOVE the mirror and the grey chair. The F over the bed doesn't seem to go with anything.

I'm just not feeling this one.

I know the blue-brown-gray color scheme is very current, but I think I would go mad living with those polka-dotted draperies. Also, the blond wood of the desk and bed don't really fit the scheme, especially alongside the brown chair, sofa, and ottoman. It would be a different story if they were painted white or stained a darker, cooler color (like walnut).

The shade of taupe/gray on the living-room walls looks rich; I like that. But otherwise I just don't see anything that grabs my interest.

I hope that the F does not stand for what I think it is and hope that it is FUN!
