Why we use color: We use color because it is a beautiful way to set the mood for our home. Nothing is better than warm color tones for fall. It makes any room cozy and warm while the outside temperatures are dropping! Simple throw pillows or colorful carpet tiles are an easy way to add color to any room. We use color seasonally, changing the mood of our living room from warm and cozy in the fall to festive and cheerful in the winter!
2 good color tips:
1. When looking for colors for your home, our advice is to look into your closet! Find a color you feel great in, and use it as an accent in your home.
2. To keep your home fresh seasonally, rotate in fun throw pillows, carpet tiles and colorful vases. Use colors that relate to each season: Ex. Fall- Burnt oranges, ambers and olives, Winter- Holiday whites with pops of red and green.
2 good color resources:
1. Favorite artwork in your home is extremely inspirational. Pull colors tones from the artwork you love!
2. Fashion magazines are a great resource for color ideas. With the next season’s fashions on newsstands early you can start collecting your accent pieces and be ready to go when the seasons change.
Gorgeous entry, if a bit too matchy-matchy for my taste.
Wow. That volume is AMAZING. How do you light those candles way high up?
love your room especially the couch, may I ask where you purchased it from?
Thanks!
This is absolutely beautiful. I need to hire you to design my loft.
Beautiful space. Wish you had chosen a different second photo, rather than a variation on the first.
Good use of pops of red throughout - works well with the wood and the neutrals. In contention
The space is BEAUTIFUL! The geometric shapes, graphic patterns on the pillows, and clear nesting tables are woo-ing me!! I seriously dig it.
Great warm colors. Love the long drapes on the windows and the color edge accent. Is it that clean all the time?? Wow!
I love this design...it is so inspiring and the colors and textures work so well together. It makes me want to redo my entire home!
This is beautiful, but too matchy. And where's the color?
So beautiful! I love the warm neutrals and the fall colors are fabulous!!
way to go!!!
Great tips for decorating! Your home looks so inviting. I'd love to relax on that couch - can we be friends??
I love what you did with your living room. Its so warm and inviting. I want to hire you guys to design my next home!
Can you please do my new house? Looks great.

Angela,
There doesn't have to be bold color on the walls to qualify as a color entry. This entry has beautiful color in the pillows and drapes and on the floor. I also usually dont like just white walls but this entry shows you do not have to paint to have wonderful color in your home.
So autumn...burnt orange, chocolaty browns, and just the right touch of fiery red. This is perfect for the season!
Very clean, warm and inviting. I would feel very comfortable here. Great look, kind of high style but liveable. Beautiful job!
This is the kind of design people want and aren't always sure how to create it---chic but very inviting.
Cool space. Can you give any info on the cool floating shelves?
Love it! Beautiful, rich colors for fall that don't overwhelm the space. You should consider a career in design!
The use of color is gorgeous. Love it. Simplicity is key.

Beautiful color scheme - that red hue brings out the warmth in the floor. The dark gray/brown and taupe complementing the red are nice, sophisticated, and add warmth as well. Very nice.

Nitpicking: Know that you don't have to squeeze all the colors in the scheme into each of the pieces (pillows, drapes, rug, candles). The interaction between the colors takes place without cramming them all into a pillow, yes?
You have really succeeded in your color strategy(!):
~ in IDENTIFYING richly colored, patterned, and textured elements,...... such as pillows, artwork, specialty carpeting, throws, candles, etc.
that can easily change season to season....quickly!
What a great way to express your personality...and have fun doing it!
~in CREATING CONTRASTING DRAMA beween the stronglines of the architectural space and the more "permanent" furnishings with fabulous sparks of autumn oranges,browns....BEAUTIFUL!
The constrast between neutrals...light to dark is also dramatic!
It makes you feel good to be in the space!
Umm, I don't get it. Pretty, but no particular color story here. Looks like a West Elm catalogue photo. Yawn.
Wow...AMAZING WORK!!! Colors and shapes work together to give off a brilliant feel to the room! So Simple too! LOVE IT!
Beautiful! Love how the warm colors buffer the harsh edgyness straight lines can sometimes have. They work very well together here.
Great tips, too. I think I may have to change my wardrobe though :D
The color is amazing, but the home itself doesn't look like anyone lives in it.
It's great!
Sophisticated, simple and FUN!
The commitment to changing color stories shows a confidence with color that many people admire and don't achieve.
It's hip, chic, yet not overdone, and did I mention consistent details? ~ Lovely!
Finally! A design that is unique, chic, and thoughtfully personal. Nice colors, especially for the setting.
Enjoy your home.
This home feels so cozy and romantic! I'm sooo inspired!
I love orange!
Feels very warm and inviting. Do you have children? If so, how do you keep it all so clean and organized? It looks great!
I love this but did not vote insta finalist because of the awkward way you hung the floating shelves. I'm fed up with seeing so much art hung too high or not in cohesive groupings that I'm now giving vote downgrades for rooms that offend my pet peeve. Sorry. I didn't mean to rant on you in particular. Love your space and color use.
You've got a good thing going. Don't change it one bit. The curtains are stunning and add so much drama to an otherwise straightforward modern room. You've done a great job with the FLOR as well. I'm now convinced that it can look good when arranged properly and I might just make a purchase before the sale ends tonight.
the colors are beautiful but this looks like a space that no one uses and which has been conformed for show. no one sitting in this room can look another person seated here in the face. unreachable candles arranged just so. cushions i'd get a dirty look for leaning on. and as for lying down on the couch and reading a book, i think maybe i'd get a time out for that. prolly in that red chair facing the wall.
someone not naturally born to the idea has been told red is kicky.
well. sometimes. and sometimes it's just another freeze your tail off color.
I like the room, but this is a color contest and the use of color is minimal.
Sorry.
Cold and depressing, not at all appropriate for this contest.
breathtaking! :)
Absolutely stunning! Beautiful color scheme that reflects the season!
I LOVE how you incorporated color throughout the room without painting a wall, so that you are able to easily change the colors for each season or mood. It is an ingenious idea that I am going to try to implement in my house. I would love to see what you plan to do for the various seasons.
I think your idea was very creative and elegant, but also easily changeable and affordable.
Your warm choice of colors really say “fall” to me. You show how you can use color to make an ordinary room look extraordinary, without being overwhelming. The end result is just breathtaking and uniquely personal. I hope you don’t mind, but I would like to borrow your ideas.
I love the warm colors of fall and how well you intreperted them into your home. It feels very warm and inviting. It looks like a great place to relax and enjoy an evening cocktail.
Bree-we had the sofa made to fit the living room...thanks for the comments!
Lori
Gorgeous! All of it: the floating shelves, the color coorination, the sofa specifically designed for the room, the uber-dramatic curtains, and the unique clear plexi nested coffee tables. You've done a wonderful job!
I think it has a great start and a very clean look, but everything is too balanced in the room; 2 of each throw pillow, exact same placement of items & colors on the floating west elm wall shelves. Those are the only decorations in the room besides on the tables and they need to be mixed up a bit more. It looks too sterile and perfectly placed. You need to counter-balance to truely balance design.
A perfect example of how to treat tall spaces!
