Name: Robin
Location: Houston, TX
Type: 2 bedroom house (100 yrs old), owned.
Why I use color: I use color because I am constantly redecorating (is that weird?) and color is the easiest way to make a huge difference fast. I lived in an RV a few years ago and even redecorated that. By the time I was done, it had a yellow and maroon kitchen, maroon living room with a mosaic made of broken Martha Stewart dishes, and an IKEA futon.

I tend to go from one extreme to another with my rooms. For example, this room had orange walls and a large brown dining room table about 6 months ago - very formal. The dining room table is now my desk in another room and I built the table you see in the picture. I was inspired to do a red dining room table after seeing a post here with red wood floors that someone was thinking about painting. I wasn't about to paint my wood floors red so I reversed what I liked and made a red table instead. The yellow and blue were then used to tone down the red. I love it but will probably change it in 6 months : ).
2 Good color tips:
1. Before you throw something out or give it away, try painting it. Same goes for when looking at resale shops - shop with the idea of being able to paint whatever you see. For example, the little red steps in the picture were given to me by my mom years ago, but they were too country cute and I just couldn't take it anymore. So, now they are red.
2. If you like 2 colors together you don't have to put them right on top of each other. For example, in the picture above I let the mirrors bring the blue of the accent wall into view.
2 good color resources:
1. Is this wrong...I buy most of my paint at the Oops Section at Home Depot. I got a gallon of Ralph Lauren (something that looks like) fudge - for $5. That's one of the ways I get inspiration for my rooms.
2. Don't be afraid to mix your own paint - at the very worst, you'll end up with an interesting color to use on something else later.
I would have loved to see a stronger yellow .. it's there but it doesn't seem to be truly adding anything to the interior. Not saying that it needs to be electric, but you do want whatever color you use to be 'present and accounted' for in the room. It's just pale enough to simply be a distraction.
The room is very nice and peaceful, but I do not see anything bold or unique about the use of color so I voted it a no.
Wow what a beautiful layout! I agree with Missy I think a bolder yellow would have made more of an already nice impact, the size of the room is what first caught my eye. The art on the walls didn't seem to do anything and I could tell it was because the color was too light. Anyway, your place is still awesome and thanks for sharing!
You used to live in an RV, and you made your own table? I want to be best friends.
Thanks for posting my house ATChicago :) And thanks for the feedback y'all. I would really appreciate any advice people want to share.
If you're interested in seeing more of my place (like the tree I started painting on the dining room wall on Sunday or the crazy bedroom) check out the photobucket album linked from my name.
And tr, what would you say if I told you I built the table with hand tools and lived in the Rv for almost 3 years? Wanna get married :)
I love the oops section at Home Depot too! I've gotten some great colors that way.
i like the space a lot. the blue in the hall is awesome and the yellow in the other hall is nice too. but the dining room wall color isn't working for me. all of the accents get washed out instead of standing out. and the dining room color is too close to the hall color, i wish the dining room color were bolder. the fudge color you mentioned might be nice, if you 'd consider going in a brown direction. i'd choose a smooth, rich shade of mauve that coordinaed with the flower pic and the lampshade and similar in hue to the blue and yellow hall. that;s my 2 cents. thanks for sharing your home.
Married? My boyfriend says YES.
PS Your bedroom rocks my socks off.
