2 good color tips:

1. Don't follow trends, do what you like, and you'll always be pleased. It's your home after all, the only person that has to like it is you.

2. Be choosy. I can't tell you how many hot pink or red items I sadly have to pass up because I just have nowhere to put them.

2 good color resources:

1. Fabrics from my favorite fabric store, Sarah's, in Lawrence, KS.

2. Interior design and fashion magazines. Two of my favorites are Elle Decor and Vogue Bambini (kids like color!)

KCMO!
I really like this. Lavendar is one of my favorite colors but I've never been brave enough to try it in a room because I don't want it to look like a baby nursery. This definitely feels very grown up, I think it's the way it's combined with those rich wood floors, the neutral furnishings and the black/white accents in the pillows and rug. This is beautiful!

Wow! It's pink with panache ... I love this! And I think it's nearly the same color as the Fauchon tins (which I also love, but they look more lavendar on the website than they do in real life).

I really love this. It is a really mature use of these colors. Can you tell us where you got that rug and the fabulous chair in the living room?

This is truly striking and original. I am impressed.

The rug is from Urban Outfitters, the chair is a pretty darn lucky Goodwill find. If you want to see a non-faded version of the second pic, check out my flikr site (link should be in my name). Thanks for your nice comments!

Gorgeous, and it won't be outdated in two years like so many entries. Not that there's anything wrong with being trendy, if that's what you like -- but I prefer your approach. It's fresh looking without being too "of the moment," IMO.

The wall looks pinkish to me, I love it. The art work is great, love the ribbon candy.

So far I have all white walls, one of these day that will change.

I especially like the living room combination of yellow and pink with the brown chair and cat on top! I call my brown tabby a "magazine kitty" since they always show up as decoration in Elle Decor.

Pretty! I love the way the colors are interacting with each other, the rug and the wood. Very very very nice.

I love this color pink. the rooms feel like a breath of fresh air. I'd love to come over & have tea!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the use of subtle purple. The black and white rug is a great way to contrast the warmth of the walls! I'd love to come over for tea too!!

I voted Insta finalist! I LOVE this! The first pic was nice, but the second sealed the deal. The colors together and the style of the room, just classic and beautiful! There's an old fashioned feel to the room with the furniture, but the rug is really funky. Love it all

That pink is really very special!

Lovely curtains. I wish everyone's entries were available on Flickr. It would be nice to them larger, clearer and to examine the details of the rooms.

I think it's a great sign when the cat has picked out the best chair for it's own lounging.

Very elegant space; also feminine and modern. You have colors that will also show off people in the room, instead of the color competing for attention.

this looks like someone is trying to live in a child's nursery without repainting... putting al grown-up stuff in the room does not compensate for the fact that the walls are baby pink.

Beautiful colors. I first thought the wall was pink, then looked again and thought more purplish -- maybe mauve? orchid? Not lavender -- or is it?

I like that pinkish-purple color, whatever it is, with the creams, browns and blacks. To me it looks feminine, grown-up, sophisticated, pretty. More interesting than pure neutrals, but with more staying power all pretty pastels.

The rug brings it into the modern age, otherwise it might almost be too old-fashioned.

Refreshing! It makes me happy to look at it.

difficult to make that shade of pink come off as sophisticated and artful, and you've done it. congrats on reconstituting "pinkness" into something more than the usual "sweetness" it evokes

Wow! Love the room and the ribbon artwork! Wherever did you find it? So beautiful and soft.
