Name: Steph
Location: Worthington, OH
Type: 2 bedroom townhouse, rented
Why I use color: I use color to add some fun and playfulness to my very cute, but very ivory (no painting of walls is allowed by my landlord) two-bedroom townhouse rental. Without the use of paint on the walls to evoke emotions or to establish a mood, I find other ways of adding color to express passion and to inspire creativity. I am always drawn to bright colors that convey my jovial side, but I usually end up subduing them (at least a tiny bit) with some browns and beiges to show that I also can appreciate a little sophistication. It's good to have some balance in my life, after all!
2 good color tips:
1. Use color in your home as a way to enrich your life! How do you want to feel in your space?--inspired? relaxed? passionate? Take some time to think about how colors can evoke emotions. Look at color in a way that maybe you never have before...you may enjoy it.
2. Don't be afraid to express yourself once you've discovered your color likes and dislikes...Unless, of course you share your living space with others, in which case you may need to negotiate. Best of luck!
2 good color resources:
1. Flood your mind with images from decorating books and magazines, catalogs, television shows, and store displays. Keep physical and mental images on hand for inspiration. This can help you to decide what colors you do/don't like and allow you to partner them with your own ideas.
2. Now go the opposite direction and take a walk through a park/neighborhood or conservatory where abundant foliage is waiting to be discovered. An autumn leaf or a flowering plant just may be your source of color inspiration.
This is so pretty. I really like how you put your colors together. I didn't even notice that your walls were all white until I re-read your title.
Love your dining room table and the color scheme too.
I'm not a fan of pink and red but I think what you've done in your bedroom is remarkable.
The white bedside tables and the silver/pink lamps bring light and sparkle to the room. I even like the combo of patterns and I'm not really good at that myself.
You did a great job without using paint. I think there's a much pink in this contest so some might be pink nuts by now, but your room is so fresh and inviting. I'd like to see larger art in the dining area instead of several small pieces and maybe a sideboard and/or a fabulous piece of art pottery on the table. All-in-all, good job.
I'd like to vote on this but the vote thing isn't showing and this is the second time this has happened to me. What to do......what to do...
Fabulous !!!! Just goes to show, even if you can't paint the walls, you can still have a great looking space. Good Job.
Whoa - someone from Worthington on AT? How cool is that? I'm just down the road from Old-Worth.
Love your table BTW...
A freakin dorable!
Very cute. Where are your white bedside tables from?
I LOVE it! I second Carol's question .. where are those awesome bedside tables from??
Thank God for Target. People's homes are so much cuter than they used to be. I love your colors. You've done a great job with very little.
Those bedside tables are from Target. Isaac Mizrahi collection. Looked on their site and all I could find was a 4 drawer dresser.
Anyway, nice use of Target goods. Until they get the IKEA built in Cinci, Target is the best those on a budget in Cbus can do (unless you want to drive to PA)...
This is a great use of fun colors without paint. My sister was always crazy about pink, so I shun it, but I really like what you've done with it here.
could you please provide a link for the bedside tables? i quite like them. thank you.
nevermind, i found it here:

But it is out of stock.
So sweet and sophisticated— where are the lamps from? The hot pink, though I love it won't go with my decor, but I love the shape and size.
Excellent job! I wish I had the talent to use color like this without just painting a while room. Really well done.
love your vintage table, and the entire space. i like how the pinstripes give more of a masculine edge to the bedroom. i think without them, it would be way too girly, but you've hit a perfect balance.
I haven't commented much on any of the other entries, but I had to with this one. My first reaction to the bedroom pic: "WOW, this is really nice and well done...wished I had the talent to put together colors like that."
Wow, I love this.
I like how you used color in unique ways. The mix of patterns in the bedroom keep our eye moving around. If not for them, I would be wary of all the matching color. Great job on fooling our eyes and mixing it up!
Apologies for the late response...the bedside tables are from Target. They were a STEAL @ 25 bucks a piece--I am a major bargain hunter! Thanks for all of the feedback!
...lamps are from--you guessed it, Target. They are long gone, though. Part of the summer collection... :(
When I saw this I thought, Wow, this is what this contest is all about! While the "sophisticated" and "complex" color combos can be interesting, this seems much more in the spirit of things. Love it!
You make Target shoppers proud! Excellent combination of pattern and color. Who needs to mess with paint when you're decorating a room!
Wow, no paint and yet so vivid. I love the vintage table and chairs. Thanks for sharing that one doesn't need paint to be dramatic.
Steph- you rock girl!!!! Rock'n roll! VIVA Hello Kitty!! Wahoo, now come and decorate my house!
