#19- Rachel's Bright and Refreshing Home

Name: Rachel
Location: Shreveport, LA
Type: 2 bedroom, owned

Why I use color:"As a painter, I find color the easiest way to make a home feel mine. I adore bright colors and patterns and usually stay away from anything too minimalist or anything beige and boring. I love humor in the home. Like cheery colors contrasting macabre images. I love how our home wakes you up every time you walk into the door. It's so refreshing and makes it slightly difficult to be depressed!"

2 Good color tips:

"Change fabrics periodically to get yourself in the mood for a certain season or trend. And I love the idea of hanging fabric on walls if you are scared of commitment."

"Who cares if things don't match? If you love it, it will always make you happy when you see it!"

Favorite type and brand of paint:"Brand of paint, hmmm? Well, I never look at the brand unless it really sucks."

I love the green in your living room. It looks clean and bright with all the white elements.

I think we can turn this contest into a Spot the Cat contest as well!

I loooove the green and white living room. I also love the yellow on the kitchen walls with the pink, yellow, and green paper lanterns. I'm not into red walls at all (having laboriously painted over that color previously, ugh, two coats of primer and a coat of paint, I was worn out!) but I do like the way you subtly carried it into the kitchen in the area under the cabinets.

You nearly sneaked that Occasional Cat right by me! His black and white looks so formal in that white chair and in front of that lovely red pillow that looks like a rose. Almost like he's wearing a tux and waiting for his date.

Thats not a green I would ever imagine liking but you've worked it perfectly with the other elements, especially the red. More I think about it, more I wish I could have it in my place.

Your living room furniture is really bad but the brightness and crispness of the colors made it easy to overlook. This is the perfect example of how adding inexpensive color can save the day and make the entire room sing.

I love this entry. The colors are bright and happy and the eclectic decor is very homey and creative. And I like its southern charm.

Nice and homey, yes I agree. Comfy.

Now someone has to have a dog somewhere!

Fabulous living room. It looks like such a cozy and happy place to hang out in.

Love the fireplace too. It makes me want to paint my hideous, dark red brick fireplace bright white.

ooh, this place looks so crisp and homey. The paper lanterns used throughout are really unexpected and wonderful - I especially love the red lanterns against the mint green wall.

LOVE the fuschia color in the butler's pantry... and how you can see it alongside the rich red in the dining. i love putting colors that sort of argue gently in conversation with each other. stunning home.

Your beautiful bright, white trim makes me emerald with envy. I live in a rental and can't touch my dark, dated woodwork. You're so lucky. Nice work.

I LOVE the red, and I love that celery green! I've been seeing so much extra-vibrant lime in the contest, which I also like, but the lighter, tamer color looks really cool and fresh and ahhh where lime can be very hot and tangy. So nice!

I love how this space seems so calm and relaxing while still feeling very "alive." Greens are my favorite, and its great to see several hues working harmoniously!
