apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

#24-Britni and Karl's Warm and Inviting Energy

Name: Britni and Karl
Location: St. Louis, MO
Type: 2 bedroom home

Why I use color:"We use color because before we bought our home, we lived in numerous apartments with cold white walls. We yearned to feel life and energy around us, so we chose to paint our home with warm and inviting colors that offset our mostly dark hued furniture."

"We spend much of our time in our joint living/dining room and by choosing the yellow-orange hues we created a space that is always inviting and full of energy. Our bedrooms are more subtle colors to create a relaxing space for rest and a calming space for work. Color is a great tool in helping anyone create an environment unique to them. "

2 Good color tips:

"Color is an easy way to change the look of a space. And you can always change it again if you end up not liking it or get tired of it. "

"Don't be afraid to use a little brighter color if you have a lot of neutral furniture."

Favorite type and brand of paint:"Our favorite brand of paint is the Behr eggshell paint, especially in the light to medium hues."

Must ask where Britni and Karl found their duvet -- I've been looking for something similar!

That orange in your dining room is very pretty, it feels like 'African orange' to me. Which paint is it? How does that blue/green/brown room harmonize with the orange? And doesn't the couch seem a bit pushed in the blue corner?

the living room could use some warming up with an area rug perhaps? the photos hung in the kitchen seem a little too high, they instantly draw my attention to the vent.

its very colorful, not really my taste though. but it looks lived-in and loved!

Excellent cat placement!

This contest has really taught me to appreciate orange. I'm now a convert.

In general I like it. The living room window seems to cry out to me that it needs something; drapes on either side might make it look taller and not so high on the wall drawing your eye down. I think a rug would also draw your eye down more.

The duvet is from Target last season, but they probably have similar ones now.

I have to say I really, really like your kitchen chairs against the yellow wall. Total 70's throwback but in a good way.

Nice...but let's keep the cats on posters or wall displays!

I really like the artwork. Did you design around the artwork first, or was the artwork bought to match the design? Either way, good job!

The wall color in the living is so gorgeous! It feels good just to look at it. If it were in a bowl, it would be the best soup ever, and I would eat it.

I agree on the excellent Occasional Cat placement. Showing the soft light-colored belly is genius; it seems like a perfect bridge connecting the color of the walls and the tans in the bed quilt.

Dining room color is Behr Yam color.
And the Living room is Behr Squash. (or vice versa)
