apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

#26- JRazon's Places Remembered

Name: JRazon
Location: Columbus, OH
Type: 3 bedroom traditional home

Why I use color:"To allow one room to be different from another but yet have a flow. (We used the "chardonnay" color to be the connecting factor of all the colors we've used in the entire house.) Each room color represent a place we've lived in the last 15 years. The blue room (living room) is to remind us of the blue water of the pacific (Hawaii). The clay and burnt yellow color in the great room/dining represent the years we spent in the beautiful state of Utah."

"The subdued, almost monochromatic sage green color in the master bedroom gives us the feeling of cleanliness, comfort, and peace at the end of the day."

2 Good color tips:

"don't be afraid but use some restraint "

"color doesn't have to be painted on each wall of your home. paintings, accessories, imagination is the best way to add character in each room"

Favorite type and brand of paint:"prefer matte or semi gloss...no favorite brand however we've used mostly behr brand"

Absolutely wonderful space. Even with all the color on the walls, my eye is drawn directly to your art in each and every room. I love the clean lines of neutrals, the organic accents, the flow and continuity in little details (like the common pillows in your living and bedrooms), and that nothing whatsoever overwhelms. Beautifully done.

The art style (pop/comic/expressionist) seems uncomfortably disjointed from the style of the house - which is much more traditional contemporary.

I like the way the color of the walls pick up colors of the paintings.
The contrast of modern and traditional gives the place an edge. I find places with just one style usually a bit boring and too matchy matchy.

I'm not completely sold on the space, but the art collection is excellent.

the great thing about art is that it goes with everything. It's art. It doesn't need a "coordinating interior."

Your art collection is amazing!!!

The rest of the is a little unimpressive, however. Tone way down your furniture and lose absolutely all of the knick-knacks. Go as simple as you possibly can. White furniture, no lines, no flourishes or embellishments. I think they are pretty pricey - but several white Ligne-Roset Togo sofas would look great in their. Then you can plop down with a bottle of sake and stare at those wonderful paintings.

That fab art collection needs the proper presentation and it is so strong and wonderful that it deserves center stage. Don't let anything else in your home compete with it.

Tone everything down and bring that art center stage and you will have an incredible home that will make everyone's jaw drop.

And by all means, post your after pics.

So pretty! I love the way you've integrated the paintings with the wall colours.

i like the way the colors flow from one room to the others. i also think he discussion about art, etc., is a little beside the point - we are evaluating the use of color.

I too, enjoy the artwork. The pop art in pic #2 looks like Lichtenstein (I LOVE his work), but I'd love to know where the other art came from.
