Type: 1 bedroom apartment, rented
Why I use color:"Why not use color?! I use color because it makes me feel good and can make a room look awesome!
My husband and I both love music, so we decided to frame our favorite records and use the colors to inspire us. As a result we ended up with colorful walls that are inviting and fun like us!"

This is a really inviting flat. The chairs in the first picture make we want to curl up with a book and a cup of coffee.

the living room seems so cramped...
nice blue in there though :)
that wall space above the kitchen table is begging for something really big.

The pets look really happy. I like the living room color but the chairs are too close together for two people to sit at once. Love the kitchen wall color. Bigger piece of art (much) above the table in a contrasting shade would be awesome.

For my new place, I kept thinking "can I go red, white and blue without looking too all American" After seeing this place it's a definite possibility! Love the color scheme.

I am curious where the unit that the TV sits on is from. Anyone know?

Too much furniture! I like the general colors on the wall, but I think better (calmer, less jolting?) hues could have been chosen...

I think I may like this, but honestly the first image was taken in a way that really distracts from seeing the room. If I could see the room better I might have some idea how I feel about it.
The colors are very fresh though.

I'm not sure I like this....why is the furniture pushed together in odd ways?

I love your place. You've cleverly solved the problems of having furniture in a one-bedroom apartment. Nice job.
What neighborhood is this place in?

I also meant to say that I love the color choices.

Lady J, I think two people sit in the armchairs at once by cuddling their feet up next to the other person's derriere. At least that's what we would do.
I think I'm liking the way the color of those 2 chairs kind of match the color of the walls. I can't tell what's up with the thought yet, but you've set some idea off, A and J. (I love when this happens.)
I want to put loose white (chartreuse? Burnt orange?) slipcovers over the 2 sofas to unite them with each other. I think their different tones of taupe/gray detract from the color scheme--especially because they're large.
Very cozy home, though.

That cozy corner in the first photo is very pretty and inviting, and those colours are great together.
I was wondering, in a not-really-about-the-colours way, what a clump of framed album covers would look like - 2x3 or 3x3 or whatever - on the living room wall, because the three in the second photo look kind of too small/floaty/high up by themselves. I don't know, though - it could look awful. Get someone else's advice first!

Lady J: those chairs are for the pets, at least that's what happens when ever I have an armchair anywhere, the pets claim it, and its a done deal.

I will say that you definitely have a bold use of color in your house! Love it. Very invigorating. Good luck!

Thanks for the comments!
The TV unit is from Ikea.
We're renting so I unfortunately have not a clue where the cabinets are from.
We live in Logan Square, above a Liquor store at California and N. Milwaukee. (This is why we looked at the place to begin with :)
Orange slipcovers are definitely an idea I’ll keep in mind.
We hung the all the records at the same level (a little higher than eye-level) throughout the apartment to keep it uniform and to have kind of a gallery feel. Ideally we want to keep buying more and add them in between the ones already up.
As for the chairs, we do use them pretty much how Aulaire mentioned. They're great in the morning for a book and a cup of coffee, and they're definitely a hit w/ the pets. Our dog Nibbler likes to straddle the one on the right and people watch, while Molly, our cat, sleeps all day in left. I really don't think I've seen either in/on a different chair, they each have their own.

These pictures are annoying because of the angles. The colors are OK. The living room looks a bit stuffed. I don't think those teas should be stored right above your stove. (tip: They should be kept in a cool and dry place).

I like it however I also agree with the above posters regarding the living room.... The sofa are too cramped for the room...

I love the first pic so much! i like the colors you have in the apartment.
my two cents: I'd get rid of the fuzzy toilet cover and contour mat, just get something square or oval for the floor.
Change the up lamp in the living room for a hanging lamp (knappa from Ikea or something similar). Do the slipcover thing with the couches, then put the one with the arms on the wall where the tv is now, and put the one with no arms perpendicular to it so that you have an L-shaped couch. then put the tv on the wall opposite the window.
and run with the record thing - put up lots and lots of them, they look great. but i'd search this site for more advice on where to hang art (i think it's something like centred at 57').
oh - and i'd just like to say again that i love the chairs.

I really want to see one large scale artwork over the fireplace. The albums are a bit wimpy. Perhaps if you had 30 of them ....
