#31- Suzy's Snappy Decisions

Name: Suzy
Location: Crown Point, Indiana
Type: Single family home

Why I use color:"i was very intimidated by color on my walls, until i had to make some very snappy decisions. my new home was so open to color - interesting rooms and space with tons of light. with a benjamin moore color wheel in hand i closed my eyes and jumped. the result is some rooms work better than others. but all in all i like the choices i made. "

I'm seriously impressed.

In my mind, you've successfully articulated the spirit of this competition.

You've taken what is definitely a challenging space and thrown perfect fall colors around that marry beautifully with your furnishings to create a warm, inviting and comfortable home.

How many colors did you use?

jane (#16 northwest) should take a look at the way you've done purple and orange here, and take notes! it's great!
however, doesn't all that honey-colored-wood-trim in the kitchen/dining area bug you? you've got some beautiful lamps and some really ugly ceiling fixtures. in any case, you're well on your way to an amazing showhome.

These colors and the way you've used them are my absolute favorites so far in this contest. The teal, purple, orange, plum, terra cotta and wheat-gold (?) in the living room are magical, and if I were sitting there with you having coffee, I wouldn't be able to hold a conversation because I'd just be visually wallowing. I think all the other rooms are equally terrific, too. (Love the slate blue and light blue on the bed in the room with the orange walls. Love them all!)

I have several color wheels, and I'd be so happy if you came here, took them and closed your eyes and jumped.

Would you give us a list of the colors you used? I'm not ashamed to copy. . . .

These are definitely some good uses of unusual color combinations. You've made the purple/mauve color work well by bringing in some blues and oranges. The peach color in your bedroom is lovely too..but sure someone with such an eye for color can scrap the cheesy Ikea artwork for something a little more gutsy ;-)

Lovely home!

I'm curious. Is there a space between the wall and the floor in photo #1, or is that an illusion?

wow, that wall-floor angle is trippy. please do tell if there is a hole there or what :-)

and, WOW!! i *LOVE* your colors, and i'm absolutely inlove with the decor of your bedroom. where did you get those pillows? and that quilt? i'm not sure how, but all the colors there don't "match" but instead GO together, like a wonderful bouquet.

maybe i'm getting too poetic, but something about this is really great.

thanks for all the great comments. some answers to questions:
benjamin moore COLORS used... DINING ROOM WALLS/2412-30, mountain moss; SMALL PART OF D'ROOM SOFFIT/2142-40, dry sage; LIVING ROOM WALLS/2082-20, plum raisen; L'ROOM CEILING/2152-30, autumn gold; L'ROOM BACK WALL/2152-40, golden tan; BEDROOM/2169-40 peach cobbler; BEDROOM CEILING/2171-30, adobe orange.

hope this helps!

Very well done, and very gutsy. You have an interior that is a work of art all on its own, and I imagine it took lots of work to cover those broad spaces with paint.

Thanks for proving that mid-west decor is more than just beige and big sectionals.

Suzy, if I could have voted - you would have been an instafinalist for me.
For what it's worth - your home has been my favorite so far in this contest! Thank you for providing your color choices. I'm inspired!

This is an incredibly sophisticated combination of colors -- and not just the usual suspects. Are you sure this is the first time you've used color? I suspect a design school course in color theory...
