Why I use color:"I love color because it can be used to give your rooms personality. When someone walks into your home they should know that YOU live there. Plus, color is just fun. It can give your house a "WOW" factor when people walk through the door."
2 Good color tips:
". Go with what you love, not trends. Just let something you have, such as a piece of artwork or throw pillow guide you. Anything can be an inspiration piece for a rooms color scheme. "
"I like to use white with bold colors. White makes your colors pop even more. White walls also look great with pops of color. They balance each other out. Gives a room a great modern and contemporary feel."
Favorite type and brand of paint:"Behr, Home Depot. I like my sheen to be eggshell. "
very cool. love your living room. the burst of color make your accessories really pop!
where did you get the circle rugs?

I love everything about your home. The vase with the guns is hilarious. Bravo!

Red is my least favourite colour (ok, I hate it) but I still like your home.

Definitely qualifies for the wow factor.
Do you get a lot of peepers from the street?
Nicely done.

Love those pops of color against all the white.

I LOVE this home. It is so beautiful. One question, what's up with no window treatments? Or do you have some super cool kind of treatment that I can't see in the photos?

it's nice, but...do people live here? kind of looks like a work space (a really cool workspace)

YAY Jessie! Your place looks fabulous - such great use of bright colours without being too much. And your pooch fits right in!

Peeped at your blog at a time when you guys didn't even have the house. I give hats off to you for the beautiful home you have created from scratch!

Eebee, I was going to ask the same question...not a magazine or DVD in sight, and no window treatments. Then I noticed the removed door and lack of trim around the dining room floor. Maybe they haven't moved in yet. A very good start to what I hope will soon be a comfortable home.

This home was decorated and is occupied by the dog, obviously. Everyone knows that terriers have superior decorating talent, and forego window treatments so nothing but clear glass gets between them and their view of squirrels frolicking in the yard.
Anyhoo - the dining area is my favorite. I really like the circular rug(s).

Thanks for the comments everyone!!!!
Yes, the rugs are from IKEA. I couldn't find one big red rug I liked, so I just went with the circles rugs. I would like to say that my house was built in 1961 and I wanted it to have a pop art/Roy Lichtenstein feel to it. Its NOT for everyone, but I love it. Its fun.
I do not want window treatments. I love the windows so much. I just feel a contemporary glass house looks better showing off the windows, then covering them. :) We are still working on the house. Its been a total rehab project. Yes, trim needs done.
I like everything put away and I hate clutter. Its what works for me and my husband. Its home for us. Simple, Mod, but still full of fun colors.

It looks very very good. When I saw the first photo I thought it looked too commercial, but as the others unfolded I loved the sense of space and liveliness. I do hope all that white works out for you, in my own experience it tends to get dingy pretty quickly. But by then you'll be ready to redo everything anyway.
I actually got the same round rugs from IKEA, in orange, and have a line of them marching down from the balcony door along one side of my long one-big-room, along the bookcases. I love the way they look under your table, like red lily pads.

Wonderful! You almost need sunglasses indoors! I love the living room....I have Tylosand couches from Ikea as well, and love their versatility and the fact that you can get different slipcovers for them if you want to change the mood altogether, too!
Cheers!

Nice job. The dog-under-table arrangement is darling.

I never like windows without window treatments. HOWEVER, they've managed to specifically make a decision about that, and because they really were committed to not having them, they've managed to work that lack into the overal composition and vision and color and everything.
I'm also not usually a huge fan of pets in pictures, but I really like the fact that they thought about a functional and pretty way to incorporate their pet and a bed for him into the composition and color and stuff, too, and so I see him as not just cute, but as a way of illustrating what the function of that item is.
By the way... having your place look like a showplace IS one way to live, and it's really kind of a fun one, actually, so I think it DOES look lived in!
Again I think I probably should be clearer -- I think this is such an instant finalist shoo-in that it's just not funny. I'm crazy about this one.

Yay, go Jessie!...i'm a serial lurker on your blog so I am very excited to see your new finished rooms. Love your work very cool - best of luck.

Wow, is right! Very fun. I salute the white couches; would have to have clear plastic covers if I had them in my house due to my inherent clumsy factor.

The "Guns and Roses" vase made me smile and say: alright, these guys have a good sense of humor.
The coffee table/doggie house is absolutely perfect. Totally warmed the room up.: )
view gekko's profile
Seriously. Did you put 12 little rugs on the floor? That must be so not sustainable. If they are the IKEA ones, they will not resist the rubbage of shoe, chair and other movements. Plus the people on the chairs wobble slightly, non?
PS: glad there is a little dog on the picture.

keep going with your work, as always!

I'll be honest--I couldn't live in this sort of environment; I just don't have the discipline to do it. But I love your place anyway; it's cheerful and made me smile to look at it, especially the white dining table against the red wall. I like that even the dog bed under the coffee table is integrated into the design.
Oh, and I share your dislike of window coverings, especially with such great expanses of glass. Looking at your pictures, I can't imagine anything that would look quite right.
Good job! I voted "insta-finalist."

I'm not crazy about the dining room, however, I like the living room a lot.

I like this home a lot.
I don't know why people think that no clutter means no comfort. Why would anyone need to be surrounded by objects, nick-nacks, etc. to be comfortable? Everyone is different. This home is warm to them and that's all that matters.
My home is modern and almost minimalist. I have no window treatments, the DVDs are put away, etc. and everyone that visits my home feels that it's a very warm home.
I have a friend that loves thrift shopping and while that is not a bad thing, his home mirrored a thrift store because he had so many things...everywhere. After visiting my home for the first time, he went home and cleaned house, got rid of a few things and learned the art of less is more. He then told me that since then, he feels so much better mentally and spiritually.
I hate walking in the front door and finding a pair of shoes there to great me. Yuck!

All right, this place is amazing! So fun and yet still sophisticated, like a comic book in the very best possible way. I love that i have the same sofa as you (although not in the same color or set-up) - makes me feel like, even with my tiny budget I might be able to acheive something this "together" someday. You must be excited about the IKEA they're building down near you! Insta-finalist, for sure!
view kfridley's profile
I would like to thank everyone AGAIN for the comments. I almost didn't enter the contest because I was nervous to show the world my crazy comicbook/popart color scheme.
I do find it very funny that I have so many votes for all 3, Insta-finalist!, In the running..., and A longshot. I suppose the people who are saying I am a longshot think my room is to CLEAN, EMPTY, out of a catalog,...etc... Maybe they hate the colors. Its all good. I am so happy that some people loved it. I hope it inspired atleast on person to drive up to lowes and buy a gallon of paint.
Interior Design is all about YOUR home and what YOU love. I like yellow, red, and Andy Warhol. My house is all about fun for me and my husband. If you want to show your whole dvd collection to the world, more power to you!!!!!!! Just have fun with it. :) (and use color!)
