Sorry, Mzzmac, but this is waaaaaay too matchy-matchy for my tastes.

Looks great to me. Reminds me of a Chiasso catalog. Adding touches of burnt orange would make this room even more vibrant.

taking down what's there and putting up some art work w/ contrast would help too. the side chairs look comfortable. ??

I agree that adding a few shots of color would make your room more interesting. Love that blue!! What is the name of the color? Where did you get the brown chairs?

Are those shiny metal vertical blinds? I don't think I've ever seen that before.

It's pretty cool...too many pics of the same thing though. I LOVE the chairs and couch, and endtables, but for a color contest, there needs to be more of it

This is awful and anyone who is saying otherwise is being condescending and not doing Mzzmac any good. It looks like something out fo Austin Powers and I don't mean that in a good way. The silver vertical blinds offend the sensibilities.

Sorry, I don't see much adventure or creativity in this room. But there is alot of potential! A contrasting color is needed...orange, avocado, or even a deep lilac. You could replace just one square in each of your FLOR area rugs with orange, for instance. Add an orange throw across the couch, and put a couple orange items in the display window in the dining room. Voila! It would feel much more alive and not so...pristine.

This is a perfect example of a color scheme that marries well.

It's interesting to see how different people with different personalities from different regions decorate their spaces. If everyone and their spaces looked the same we'd all be living in Edina's world (I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but who'd want that?)

This entry kept me around because it is unique and well-put together and even more because of the philosophy behind the decorating.

So I'm sure that if there were a picture of MzzMac hanging out in this room, it would look complete. Isn't that what it's all about in the end? Win or no win.

It's just beautiful. What I see here makes me sure the rest of the apartment is just as lovely. I think the silver blinds add some sparkle and glitz.

BTW, it's official--the combination of light blue and chocolate brown have conquered the world.

It's very Detroit-contemporary. Not bad, just the fake flowers... pet peeve of mine.

I second Avimom's posting. Some contrast would shake things up. And I think the furniture would work well with something softer than the graphic prints on the wall and rugs - like a nubby white rug. That would put the focus more on the furnishings and less on the bold prints, which dominate the room. Some white, like those pillows on the sofa, would lighten the room a bit. Just my two cents.

I don't make comments on everyone's submission? I only comment on the truly awful and the truly wonderful, unfortunately the latter being few and far between and the former being plentiful. If I haven't commented on your entry, you can assume it falls into neither category.

Love the blue and the browns, the chairs and the couch (and I'm a sucker for glass an metal). I agree with the idea others have expressed of some colorful orange (or otherwise) bursts being needed. Very Stylish, but doesn't feel homey to me. I'm still puzzling over the quote, "Decorating the interior of your home should be a mirror-image of how you dress yourself. " It seems like a good philosophy for a single occupant abode, but this is a 3 bedroom ranch house... I'm just wondering about the rest of the folks in the house. It's very stylish, but something doesn't feel so homey about this, like I'm missing the presence of anyone else.

I'll preface this by saying that it takes a brave person to submit their home for any contest on Apartment Therapy. I am definitely a sideline kind of gal & I learn a lot from just checking out other people's homes.

We all have very different tastes in home decorating. And again, you have to be brave to do this because others will be judging. That being said, this is a contest. And people are judging. So you have to expect that not everyone will love your personal taste.

This particular entry is not my thing: Carpeting of any kind freaks me out. So do fake flowers--why oh why won't those go away?? They're dust catchers. Blech. It looks like powder blue exploded in a violent matter. Too matchy matchy. Not creative or adventurous in my opinion. It's a replication of the latest Chiasso catalog.

But I'm sure the person who lives here is very happy & doesn't care what I think. And that's fine too! Kudos to them for being brave enough to submit their home for judgement.

I would exchange a couple of the blue and brown art pieces for mirrors, or black and white prints, or something else entirely. A lot of effort has gone into this place. It looks comfortable and clean, and it appears that the rooms function well, but I would change of few things.

The blue upholstery pieces are pretty. All of the furniture is nice. When you grow tired of the blue walls, keep the furniture and go for something with more contrast. The blue couch would look great against an orange wall.

Kitties!- Blinds R Us has them! I think my grandmother had those same vertical blinds...

I don't think this is that bad at all. I don't care for the artwork on the walls or the flowers, but everything else seemed ok to me. What I would've liked would be to see more photos of the rest of the home. I enjoy pictures that show a flow of color in the entire home - you have a 3 bedroom ranch, why not show us the rest of it?

Good foundation. I agree that some nubby white rugs and pops of an accent color (the burnt orange suggestion is a good one) would really bring this place to life. Also, I feel like the lighter, very warm wood floors are sort of fighting with the dark chocolate and cool blue colors. Maybe the white rug would help subdue the contrast? And/or perhaps consider integrating some non-dark wood pieces of furniture into the decor? In general, my sense is that if you mixed things up a little bit, the decor would really come alive.

I like the shade of blue. Other than that--not much. These rooms have no soul. They look like they were done for a show house, or possibly by Trading Spaces. It's incredibly impersonal and uncomfortable. Except for the few tiny (and shiny) tchotchkes on the pass-through, there aren't any personal objects displayed. Who is this person? You don't get any idea from the main rooms of her home. The blinds are a migraine waiting to happen, there doesn't seem to be a single comfortable place to sit, and the fake flowers and dried grasses...ugh. I like Flor tiles, but as used here they make the rooms look smaller.

I'd be interested to see the rest of the house, where the residents must actually live.

Well intended, but overdone to the point of monotony. I'd say, remove at least 1/3 of all the powder blue stuff and replace it with white (e.g. the couch, the rug, the artwork) or, if you feel confident enough, another contrasting or complementing color.

I know everyone seems to love this powder-blue-and-chocolate combo, but I actually think it already looks dated. You've really got to introduce some other colors (or one, at least) to make it look fresh and give it some personality.

For someone who is a self proclaimed 'adventurous and outgoing' type, you seem quite bound by this color scheme of blue and brown, non?

I can't think of anything outside of what's already been said.
Many colors would easily compliment this scheme, I say practice what you preach.
Be adventurous and try them out in your room.

The color combo of the wrapped present made me think of this color contest entry, as it shows how adding a third color (burnt orange) and a little white really brings the brown/blue color scheme to life.
