Name: Emily
Location: Glenview, IL
Type: 3 bedroom townhouse, owned
Why I use color:"Color is both the easiest and most dramatic way to add character and personality to any living area. It is not only a way to express individuality and style, but a way to evoke a desired emotion in a particular space."
"A blue and white bedroom can allow you to unwind into sweet and peaceful dreams and wake up feeling like you are floating on a could, while a bedroom of vibrant shades of orange and yellow enhance a sun drenched room and incite the energy needed to start the day right. An all white and neutral hued home can create its own classic and beautiful look, but it always seems to me, like a blank canvas that is waiting to be infused with vivacity and soul. My home is my foundation, the place I rise and rest every morning and night, and consequently, the biggest canvas I have to reflect my tastes and experiences. Whether it's a vivid piece of artwork from generations past or bright sheet that are equally pleasing to the eye as to the skin, I use color to create a house that is a home, one that is a reflection of me."
2 Good color tips:
"When having difficulty decding on a room color(s) pick a favorite item, such as a piece of art, a rug, or even an intersting dish, and use it as your inspiration. It will help to create a polished look and will ultimately pull our colors that you are naturally drawn to."
"Color blocking is a great way to develop visual interest in an otherwise bland room. By choosing just two colors for a room and varying the wall colors you can keep clean and simple lines while giving the space some pop."
Favorite type and brand of paint:"Benjamin Moore - Eggshell finish"
I love your whole place!
and I want one of those egg lamps? Where is it from?

That bathroom is amazing! I love the chandelier and the paint color you've chosen. Very claming and zen. And if that's how big the bathrooms are in Glenview, I'm totally moving! It's about as big as my whole place!!

The orange room is STUNNING!!

my guess is the pillows are to sit on, since there's so much lovely open floor space!

every time I see the space as big as yours, I get depressed when I go to my NY apartment, which is maybe a little bigger than your bathroom..
But your place looks awesome...the red accent wall rocks!!
Good Job!

what is the orange color you used in the first photo?

I love this place, but looking at this, and other entries, I wonder if there shouldn't be different categories based on amount spent on decorating. It's clear a lot of money was spent on this, and though you can obviously have money and still have poor design taste, money sure makes it easier to get that "everything fits" look.

I like the bathroom, very calm and soothing colors. The chandelier is its best feature!

Cute cute cute egg lamp, especially in front of the pear on the wall.

All but the first photo sure have a "wow" factor. But, yeah, is there a couch or a chair or something in the living area besides floor pillows and two sorta empty book towers?
Lovelovelove the Matisse bedroom!

I love that blue in the bedroom? Do you remember what it's called (and who makes it)? I'd also be interested in knowing about your bedding, too. Fabulous room.

Funny I just looked at an entry that is similar to this one, but the execution here is so much better.

Gorgeous bathroom. I wish there was more in the way of accents to the walls, instead of everything matching the walls. For example, love the blue bedroom walls, but the comforter is ick. It would be even more gorgeous with some violet, teal, etc. And while I really like the red accent wall, I think a red/white/black combo is too easy and probably overdone.

Nice place, but does someone actually live in it??? You must have a nieat housekeeper!

Emily, I'd be interested in knowing a little about the print in the last picture. And I love the red and orange bedroom - it practically screams happiness!

I love the light fixture above the tub (CHECK IT OUT! *drool*), the blue and white room (because that bedspread is so unexpected), and the use of orange (is that orange?) in the first pic. Usually I dig the b/w and red color scheme but that photo just ain't doin it for me. Maybe if that plant got a little more love in the frame? ;)
Cheers!

correction: light fixture in the bathroom not bedroom. and while i'm here could u tell me about the shelves in the blue bedroom, i like that they're one sided.

"i dont really get the stacks of pillows next to the fireplace though..."
Goodnightdean,
Perhaps when one runs out of logs?..
Haha
Talk about a good way to rid your home of the 'way too many pillows' syndrome, not to mention lowering your heating costs for the winter!
In any case, that bathroom looks unbelievably refreshing.
Good job.
