Fall Colors Midwest Finalist Entry: John's Bold, Bright, Day or Night

Here's John, our next midwest finalist. Our judges are making the final decisions, but your comments can help them out...

Name: John
Location: Royal Oak, Michigan
Type: 2 bedroom ranch home
Go to: John's Original Entry

John's favorite OTHER entry:
#20 The Crew Tag Boys Balanced Energy.
Super sophisticated use of bold color and furnishings. Their use of color ties all their furnishings together into one cohesive unit. How can you not love the striped wall and that wall of windows?

Great job boys!!

Tell us about your favorite colorful object in your home:

It is a toss up between the orange Aarino puppy in the living room or the orange Eames molded fiberglass chair in the blue bedroom. Someone once told me that orange is the worlds happiest color. I agree.

The puppy which doubles as a footstool adds a playful element to the room and best of all is house trained and never barks....good dog!

The orange Eames chair pops off the blue wall and mixes well with the chocolate and white bed linens. Since blue and orange are complimentary colors you cannot beat this combination. I couldnt pass this chair up....it was only $1.

Great place! Is the tripod lamp with the red shade vintage? If you've got any info on it, I'd love to hear it.

I love this house. There is always something to look at, but never seems busy and most importantly it has a real sense of humor about it. The outside world can be so dull and oatmeal, it's nice to be in a home that makes you smile.

There is also a strong feeling of the personality of the owner, this decor isn't a copy from a magazine, but a personal expression of taste. Looks like ti was fun to decorate and I'll bet it changes seasonally!

Color is fun!

The tripod lamp is not vintage. It is fairly current from a company called Orbit.

The shade came from a company called Meteor Lights in San Francisco (www.meterolights.com). They custom make shades in many colors and shapes for all kinds of lamps...current and vintage. Check them out.

What a truly inspired combination of sleek whimsy and deliciously modern style. The colors are at once arresting and soothing to the eye; simultaneously anchoring each space in a pallete of inspiration and mood, and serving as a sensory showcase for an incredible collection of delicilously interesting furnishings and artwork.

The period details of the house and gorgeous, hardwood floors are a perfect backdrop.

Touche!

what a fun video!
i love all your knick knacky items you have that make it so personalized and less stagey. it has such feeling and fun to it.

i also just love the colors you chose (swoon at the green in the bedroom) and i'm amazed how great all the details of the smaller items pulls it all together. i think anyone else could have used these colors very badly but you did such a great job with them.

this entry to me really represents the idea of color both in the small detail and in the large. congrats to you!

Wow, great place! Love the colour!

Question: where did you get your blue coffee table from?

This is a clear winner to me. Not just for the use of color, but the entrants ability to convey the use of color throughout the space through the selected photographs. The choice of photos really expands on the original submission, not just more of the same thing.

The coffee table was from a company called Pure Design. They had sold their product through various stores on the web and have since gone out of business. :(

The collection also included side tables in various heights and colors. I miss them.

Wow--I have a lot of the same colors in my own place (blue bedroom, and the green in one bedroom is my living room color) but this gives me such inspiration to take it to the next level. So fun and yet sophisticated. I even have that Breakfast at Tiffany's poster in a closet, waiting to hang in the blue bedroom, but not until I saw it in yours did I realize it would tie in my orange/green living room with the blue brilliantly. So thanks for the ideas!
