What inspired you to use color? I've been obsessed with color since childhood, especially sunset colors: warm reds, yellows, and oranges. I use a limited palette but mix and match lots of patterns and points of interest within that palette.
Color Tip: When I find a fabric I love, I use it as the basis for the color scheme I apply throughout my home.
Colors Used: Bright red, sunny yellow, and gulf blue.
Welcome, everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...
1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide
The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.
2. Voting Phase - you vote til you drop
Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.
Best, Maxwell

That slubby fabric of those draperies is so cool - I love it!

The afghan on the bed and the pillow on the chair are my favorite. Is the afghan vintage? It looks like it. It is very beautiful.

Absolutely love, love, love the granny blanket (I collect them as often as I can). Great home--definitely the best of Midwest modern.

Hey thanks for all the nice comments, everyone!
Most items in my home are handmade by me (the curtains, the lamp, the monkey, the painting on the chest), handmade by my father-in-law (much of the furniture, like that fabulous CD cabinet), or found at thrift/antique stores (the afghan).
Incidentally, my house smells like nag champa -- I've never owned a moth ball. But if it's not your bag, baby, that's cool.

The whole collection makes me feel warm and at home. I just want to curl up on the loveseat with book and a cup of hot chocolate. Great job and fantastic creativity!

I really love all the pictures on the wall heading up the stairs, and the other two on the wall alone. Did you paint those? These are all my favorite colors! And, of course, I'm especially fond of the mix of vintage furniture with your handmade touches. How fab!

The colors in the granny blanket are wonderful, as is the combination of bright colors and neutrals in the living room. The combination of the yellow on the walls and bright red bird pillow looks bright and cozy. The pillow and chair combine a modern look and Eastern-inspired textiles well. The table seems to be set for a homemade dinner with a few close friends and great conversation. Overall, this looks well-designed but also welcoming. Nicely done!

Your pictures looks so wonderful against those lovely yellow walls! And I love the little details like the colored curtain holders. I would love to have a home this warm and cozy!

I love the colors, especially the use of colors mixed with reusable and renewable objects. This is giving me some ideas to use around my own home.

How funny, I was just posting about this similar afghan I'm making (in that post about color pops in small, light spaces.) The squares are the same size as yours, with the cream/aran on the outside, but I make the color bands all different sizes.
Way to mix it up. I like the little details, like the curtain rings. And I like that it uses vintage items in a fun way. I'm all about reclaiming.

Lovely!,
I love bright colours but used in the warm, homey way you have used them.
It is comfy and cosy and welcoming. Very inviting.

Absolutely adore it! It looks so bright and cozy. I want to wake up and have breakfast here. I am always amazed at the way people can put rooms together. Why was I not born with this kind of eye?
It looks like what I'd want a modern midwest place to look like. Warm, inviting, a little behind the times (I know the it's retro for effect, and it is perfect here).
ADORE IT!!!!!

Excellent. My favorite part is the square patterns (on the bed and in the chest of drawers) and the funky dolls.

This is kind of amazing because it is so hard to pull together such disparate colors. I'd like to see more overall photos.

Nice, it has that kind of vibe where I would totally expect to be offered cookies and fruit punch served in those cool colored metal glasses.

Beautiful accessories, but too many close up shots. Show us the rest of your space.

It's not just the color, but the use of texture and shape balanced again neutrals that make this a wonderful combination. I love that items that can be gleaned from beloved family treasures, goodwills and resale shops are re-presented in combinations that are refreshing their use in the home. I remember that as a kid, most of these were displayed in my home and grandmothers' homes, but seemed less "mod."
