Midwest #23: Jennifer and Greg's Spirit Boost

jengreg101408.jpgName: Jennifer and Greg
Location: Decatur, GA
Type of Home: Apartment

fallcolors2.jpg
What inspired you to use color? Four years of an off-white cinderblock dorm room in gray-skied Indiana were enough to convince me that surrounding yourself with color can instantly boost your spirit!

Color Tip: If you can't paint your walls, use color in your accessories (and organize your bookcase by color!).

Colors Used: Glidden's Razz berries

fallcolors1.jpgWelcome, everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...

1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide

The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.

2. Voting Phase - you vote til you drop

Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.

Best, Maxwell

One of very few homes that I've fallen for with this contest. Very enchanting! And I never thought I might like a Klippan...

the choice and use of colour is great in this space. there is a nice balance that prevents it from being overwhelming but also compliments each other nicely.

Lovely home. Even though I would never have a purple/pink wall in my home it works really well here. I think it works well because it's balanced nicely.

I'm a big fan of the wall color, the cute cat on the bed, and fashionable use of the blessed Ikea. Also, I must come and sip lemonade on your porch sometime. Perhaps while waving victorian fans. Southern Style, yo.

This is a classic example of adding style and color into a space without turning it into a themed room or a preschool classroom. You've blended subtle sophistication with a hint of playfulness, and you haven't overdone any of it. I especially like the desk area - the tasteful artwork and simplicity of the desk itself, as well as the flower and lamp shade picking up the magenta from the wall on the other side of the room. I think I would enjoy my job more if I worked at that desk.

You really achieve a high end look on an IKEA budget. Well done! I would be happy to move in whenever you invite me, just as soon as you get rid of the cat. (Allergic.)

Love it! The hot pink accent wall is terrific, and I also love the butter yellow office area with the hot pink lamp shade. Very nicely done! And I'm super impressed that you manage to keep a white couch clean!

A couple of your pictures are a bit crooked. That's the only constructive criticism I can offer. You've succeeded in making the ubiquitous white IKEA shelf look good, and that's no small feat.

It's obvious you've got a great grasp of color theory. Bravo!
