What inspired you to use color? I'm pretty intuitive about how I use color. I want my home to reflect me, and color plays a huge part in achieving that. The fact that I rent and can't alter the walls has put more importance how I use my furniture and art to create the right looks.
Inspiration continued: My home is also in a perpetual state of flux- I'm constantly moving things around, editing, reappropriating, and recombining elements and colors to change the look of a room. It's a great exercise in creativity, and cheaper than buying new things!
Color Tip: Only use colors you absolutely love. It's a pretty simple tip- but tends to produce more interesting palettes than simply following trends.
Welcome, everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...
1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide
The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.
2. Voting Phase - you vote til you drop
Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.
Best, Maxwell

I really love this house. Not too much and not too little. It feels calming even though she didn't just stick with cool color.

It's very nice. I like the moorish doorway and the view into the living room.

That living room is perfect! Is that the controversial UO sofa? If yes, you've totally redeemed it! The two matching arm chairs are they vintage? You're flat inspires me...and looks like it could easily be done on a budget. Which I think is SUCH an important factor when judging this contest. Not everyone has tens of thousands of dollars to spend on design! AWESOME.

I love it! It's so clean! And I love the little red table. I am wondering about those kitchen walls though. I didn't notice them until someone pointed them out though.

Cute cute cute. And she said it is a rental, so I'm guessing the kitchen walls are not necessarily her choice.

Liz totally made the colors and textures that came with this rental work for her - she was challenged by her limitations and created a beautiful space with her collection of vintage chairs and letter pressed prints.
I think the kitchen wall paper is endearing - especially because it was installed upside down (you can tell if you look closely at the cherries and pineapples).
I love it!

bepsf, Travsmom:
I think I laughed out loud the first time I saw that wallpaper- who knows what happened. Or when. Or WHY.
Alas, I cannot change it. And actually, now that I've lived there a few months, its somehow strangely grown on me... though I would still rip it down in a second if given the option.
alianoelle:
That IS the fabled UO couch. It works for me. It's obviously not top-notch furniture, but I bought it secondhand, so I paid only a fraction of the full price, and it was definitely worth THAT. I needed a couch, the midcentury legs gel with the rest of my stuff, so it works for now. At least until something amazing comes up on Craigslist... which is where I got those matching chairs, and yes they are vintage! Love that horrid gold color... sigh. The other day someone pointed out that I own no less then SEVEN gold chairs. Seven. Seven!

I adore the little red table number 6 vignette. It's kind of sad and sweet all by itself. I want to sit there and have a private tea and book moment. Though the black frames in the dining room make me itch. Like they should either be more aligned or much less.

Aisha stoled the words from my keyboard :) - I thought the same thing when I so the red table - it is so sweet and sad at the same time :)
You did a great job considering the limitations. I like you place very much!

I LOVE your use of color!!! May I ask where the green tin metal box came from in your desk picture?
