What inspired you to use color? My husband and I are both painters. We consider color and the quality of light in a room to be as important as the furniture, objects or artwork on the walls. We considered these colors for weeks. Swapping some chips for others, wheeling and dealing.

Inspiration continued:The red in the living room and office were inspired by the color of Poppie flowers. The glowing lavender in the bedroom and dining room is one of my favorites, it is a very relaxing and calming. I like how color can shift your mood and move your eye through a space.

Color Tip: Go with your gut and don't be shy. Use high quality paint and tape like a surgeon. Your floor color/stain should also be taken in to account when picking your wall colors.

Colors Used: All paint colors are Benjamin Moore. The tan in the hallway is called "Peanut Shell." The green in our son's room is called "Lime sherbet." The other colors were custom tinted.

fallcolors1.jpgWelcome, everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...

1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide

The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.

2. Voting Phase - you vote til you drop

Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.

Best, Maxwell

Hey...wait a minute! I didn't even know you were entering. Your place looks great. Folks--this place has the mostly lovely lavender walls ever. It's too bad you can't see down their hallway because the paintings and arrangement of the art is tremendous. This place is modern and comfortable and perfect for this family. I'm so lucky to have been in Kristen & Jonathan's place because it exudes cool confidence without ever being stuffy or overdone.

This is really nice. It's modern, but it feels cozy and warm at the same time. Great colors.

Lucky Milo gets to see the colorful, happy faces of Baladeva, Subhadra, and Jagannatha as he sits in his crib. Wonderful! i'm such a big fan of orangey walls and white trim. yum.

You have created a very loving and nurturing environment. The colors, light, objects and art make this an inviting apartment to visit and live in.

This is my favorite! I love the bold use of color, the contemporary furnishings, and still it all seems soft, warm and so very welcoming.

Hey neighbors!
Love your place too! Are the paintings your work? I adore the boxer. You have such a great sense of space and style and I love to see people incorporate their lifestyle (ie. kids stuff) seemlessly into their decor. Your place is creative and fresh and really wonderful. Here's to saving the "baby blue" paint for another room in the house, instead of in a boy's bedroom. Milo's space is great. What is that wonderful little house on the floor?(Gretchen)

Thanks Gretchen! Quite a few of the paintings you see are the work of my husband or myself. The boxer is one of our faves too, it was done by an artist and gallery owner named Jim Dempsey. The little house you see in Milo's room is old (1940's?) wooden Fisher Price play house which I found at a yard sale in Evanston not too long ago. -Kristen
