What inspired you to use color? I love the variety that can be achieved by using color. You can pick up an accessory while traveling abroad, thrifting, or splurging and throw them together to create a bright, happy, warm home!

Color Tip: Paint and accessories are the two pieces in a home that can really handle bursts of color. Large (*cough*expensive*cough*) items should be neutral for longevity purposes but toss on some colored pillows and a bright piece of wall art? Perfect harmony!

Colors Used: Dining Room - Behr Mississippi Mud/ Family Room - Benjamin Moore Stardust/Sunroom - Benjamin Moore Gray Wisp/Guest Room - Benjamin Moore Elephant Grey

fallcolors1.jpgWelcome, everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...

1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide

The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.

2. Voting Phase - you vote til you drop

Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.

Best, Maxwell

Kitchen is great! And everything else as well.

Please can someone tell me what is with big letters or numbers that you use as decoration in your homes?
I'm from Europe and I didn't notice that in European houses so I guess it's some American thing?
I like it though :)

Vamh -- Your home is warm and welcoming. Congrats on a job well done -- I envy the family that gets to live there!

gail.gaby -- It's ashamed your mother never taught you "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all"...I suggest you adopt some class and take your negativity elsewhere.

whoa, Moni-ka, what about your negativity towards gail.gaby? This is a colors contest...we are encouraged to give our truthful, honest opinions as the judges will use those to determine the final 16 in each bracket. She wasn't mean or nasty...just honest. We're all entitled to expressing our opinion in a contest, right?

I happen to agree with Gail.gaby...it's unexciting for a color contest entry, though nice enough overall...

If we're going to try to influence the judges, let's give 'em comments that they'll take seriously. "Boring!" says nothing about what criteria the commenter is using or whether this person has a clue. A civil explanation of the apartment's weaknesses -- "the blended palette doesn't feel like vibrant use of color; it needs a pop of something brighter in the living room" -- gives the judge something to think about.
