Midwest #5 - Amber's Passion for Orange

amberentry100308.jpgName: Amber
Location: Worthington, OH
Type of Home: House

What inspired you to use color? My passion for art, creativity, and ORANGE! I have orange in my sunroom, on my desk, in my kitchen, and even my bathroom. All fused with grey of all tones and metallic silver.

Color Tip: Use your color sparingly, as a pop color in your room. Do not overuse your pop color, just enough to make the eye flow from one side of the room to the next and even out to another room.

Colors Used: bright orange, tangerine, grey, slate, metallic siler and metallic burnt orange

fallcolors1.jpgWelcome, everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...

1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide

The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.

2. Voting Phase - you vote till you drop

Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.

Best, Maxwell

I love the flowers painted on the wall and that tree thing in the corner next to the sofa.

Three pictures of the couch, four of the TV, seven in total of the same room... we need some variation. What about the rest of your house?

Talk about "Sticker-Shock"...
...this room is wall-decals and branches run amuck!

I do love the color of the bathroom - but the rest of the place needs some balance and editing.

The tree thing looks like the Algue which can be bought all over but check out the MOMA shop below. I have one set (about $35 for 6 pieces) on my entry wall; AT has shown it in previous house tours (or contests) as headboard art too. Not sure if this link will work but here goes: www.momastore.org/museum/moma/ProductDisplay_Algue_10451_10001_49182

You say you use bright orange, tangerine, grey, slate, metallic siler and metallic burnt orange, but I see beige, beige, beige. If you own your home, why don't you take some risks? Cut back on the number of removable decals and try some paint. The decals are cool, but you've got a bit of an overload issue here.

Also, you might consider craigslisting your sofa. The one you have now is way too big for the space, and you can see where everybody's butts and legs have been. Maybe a curvy black loveseat, or a couple of bright green club or slipper chairs would look good here, with a vintage lamp either on your end table or or a standing lamp between two chairs if you choose to go that route.
