Flickr Finds: A New Years Eve Dinner Party

2007-01-09-soup.jpg

Kathryn rang in 2007 in style. She had a dinner party at her loft and shared photos of the festivities and food (which looks so delish!) with us by tagging the photos in flickr with "apartmenttherapychicago".

Inviting guests over is a great way to ensure that your home is super clean, organized and looking (and feeling) it's best. What a great way to start off the year - in your pulled together space, sharing a beautiful meal you have prepared for good friends...

The lucky guests above enjoyed this menu at Kathryn's:

White Bean and Parsley Spread, Olive Tapenade and Cheese Spread with Crackers.

Roasted Butternut Squash Soup (shown above) in beautiful bowls.

Blue Cheese Gourgeres.

Golden and Red Roasted Potatoes with Rosemary.

Green Beans with Lemon Scented Butter.

Cippoline Onions in a Balsamic Reduction (we are wondering if this was the Martha recipe...we've made that and it is very good).

Beef Tenderloin with Green Peppercorn Mustard Sauce.

And to finish the meal, a Chocolate Souffle and Vin Santo.

Oh - and are those Chilewich placemats we spy?

With all of that to prepare, and then enjoy, we are (happily) surprised that Kathryn and Walter had time to take all the photos...Thanks for the peek into your entertaining style!

Good eye, Janel, those are Chilewich placemats!

And the evening began with S'groppino cocktails which are prosecco, vodka and lemon sorbet. For some reason, lemon sorbet was sold out at the three stores I went to, so I substituted peach.

Actually the cippoline onion recipe was from Bon Appetit (the special Rome/Florence/Venice issue in 2005). They were really good; I look forward to trying them again.

We had a really nice evening. I will admit I was a bit stressed out when the Bears game got rescheduled (I would have planned a completely different menu for a football-watching party!) but the game wasn't turned on until after dinner.

One of my New Year's resolutions is to host more dinner parties!!

Mmmmm, the S'groppinos sound amazing! Must make that this year.

Hmm...sounds like Giada de Lorentis' recipe?? I actually had a similar version in Montreal many years ago, minus the sparkling wine. It was more of a dessert than a cocktail.
