Degerkas tagged her flickr photos with apartmenttherapychicago, and we're so glad she did. We love her new orange Malm fireplace! She says: "It only took me 7 months of craigslisting, a huge favor from my parents in Chicago, and a long visit at Christmas to get the bright orange fireplace! " Click below for more photos.

hey, that's my fireplace on apartment therapy! thanks guys!

you know, that has got to be silliest thing ever. why put a faux fire place in your apt just to put candles in it? why not just get the dvd of the fireplace, at least that has some kitch value...

I love it! But I do think it looks better without the candles =)

I don't think it's silly if she's planning on using it in a future home.
If a great bargain comes along you have to take it!
I agree with anna, I like it better without the candles.

i disagree with kung, the candles are a clever idea if you can't utilize it yet...
and it looks great with the high ceiling!

Not sure how to hide the cord but what about one of those electric fireplace logs? Just a thought

We have this exact fireplace (not installed yet). We found it on eBay for $100! Pretty psyched. We're going to put it in our basement but it's going to cost us $2,000 to install and we just bought our house so right now the money is earmarked for other things. But what the hell -- maybe we'll put it down there as a "candleplace" to get us inspired to get the thing installed!!!

I love this, everytime I see it in a magazine. Not quite sure it works in that particular home though. It looks out of place.

Why not? I don't know why I haven't thought of something like this? A piece like that is a great focal point. I might make a little pile of birch branches or something with some candles as well.
On second thought though, I shouldn't tempt myself. Knowing me, I would install some sort of makeshift exhaust and start burning wood. Then I'd be in real trouble...

My mom has the exact same fireplace. She snatched it at a tag sale for $15.00! Since she lives in an apartment she can't install it. So she found these fake logs (another tag sale find) that has little pieces of metal that crackles and makes the light flicker. It's the first thing everybody notices when they come over. You wouldn't believe the people who get fooled by it ,too.

Anything as funky as this fireplace is always a great focal point and a great conversation piece. This fireplace is a Lancer Malm fireplace. the company is based in santa rosa california, they still make these and have other colors available. They have wood burning as well as gas. price is from 1,200-3,500 . Im considering buying one myself..
I love it....

I live in Michigan and needed some brick work done for my stone fireplace. Well, like every easy project, this one turned out to get a little more complicated than I originally had imagined. The whole plan looked great on paper, but eventually I knew the building stone I had gotten wasn’t going to be enough. I got some recommendations from a buddy of mine, but I wanted to go with a company that has been around for a while and has a reputation that they stand behind. Another friend of mine suggested Lincoln Brick and Stone. I checked out their website (http://www.lincolnbrick.com), made a couple of phone calls, and they really put my mind at ease. The project, on its way to being a complete masonry nightmare, wound up ending without incident. I would say “fun”, but since when is installing a new stone fireplace fun? Just to celebrate the hard fought victory over my stone fireplace, I had them throw in some custom engraving to seal the deal. I was generally very pleased with the work done by Lincoln Brick and Stone and would recommend them in a heartbeat for anyone who wants to have a stone fireplace, but might be a little reluctant to choose a company to use.

It looks like a Preway fireplace. We have one in our house that has not been installed. we use a set of ceramic logs that were made to burn canned gel fuel. It's ventless. We love it and use it most evenings.
