During our year-end reviews, we took another look at a Chicago two-flat renovation. The owner tagged the photos with "apartmenttherapychicago" last January and we were happy to share them with you then (here is the original post) - and now - following the re-post, the owner has kindly tagged some more photos in Flickr. So with out further ado, the update (along with some questions for the AT design minds):
Pocket Doors - Downstairs Office

Downstairs Office Interior

Since the major rehab, this kitchen bar area has been changed to...

...this extra kitchen storage area. A question from the owner: "I liked the idea of a bar area, but I never loved the way it looked and we needed the extra cabinet space. Now my question is, should we extend the backsplash or no? I don't want to detract from the wall, but I'm not sure the counter looks good by itself."

Hallway Paneling

Bedroom Lighting and a color question: "Accent color on this wall or no? I was thinking of a brownish-red, but I'm not sure how it will look with the wood. Any ideas?"
More on the Edgewater Two Flat:
Thanks (again!) to "t8 1974" for tagging the photos in flickr with "apartmenttherapychicago"!
Wow, I love this. It's sophisticated without being too pretentious. Fantastic job. The kitchen cabinets are great too - they look like they can go either traditional or modern. Very nice.

re the bar area now with cabinets: I did something similar in my house and did not extend the backsplash. I felt like a backsplash was unnecessary for an area that was going to see little water and some food prep but more as a holding area.

Thanks, Nattles. I think it could use something, but I'm at a loss. I don't want to detract from the wall, but I don't want to insert something random that won't relate to the rest of the kitchen. Maybe blackboard paint?

I agree with ll - Sophisticated without being totally pretentious. Very well done! I love the living room!

Why don't you think about propping a few smaller framed art pieces/photos on the counter? If you prop a couple of varying sizes in an interesting way, that may take up some wall space without doing anything permanent (that way if you don't like it you can go to plan B), and it would hide the plug which I think would help. You can move the frames easily when you need the plug.

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually did put a framed photo on the counter since those pictures were taken, and it really warms it up. I've also thought about doing something with stencils (shudder), but the "craftiness" aspect troubles me, and again, I'm not it will look cohesive with the rest of the space. Any other suggestions are much appreciated (on this and the other photos).
