Jennie, new to Chicago, jumped right in and tagged photos of her just-purchased condo with "apartmenttherapychicago" for us to see.
And it didn't take long for the work to start...

perfect example of the craptacular new construction that abounds in chicago. sorry.
I love the warm color of the floors and that light fixture is lovely! The kitchen already looks great. Hope you post your "afters"!
Woo! I feel somewhat guilty having all this space after living in NYC with very little.
m, though I have no doubts about the sincerity of your apology, there is no need to be sorry!
I need to unpack more and take some daylight photos but I will upload a couple tonight because I need some advice.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a sideboard/buffet that isn't too deep? I have one that is 21 inches which is just too deep for my narrow dining area. Right now I'm using my old Billy bookcases which will look a little better with glass doors on them but I definitely would like a nicer piece to store my silverware, china, and various other dining accoutrements. We're mixing ornate and modern so I'm open to all kinds of styles.
Here is a mini slideshow of some progress.
Please help on office paint color and sideboard advice!
I mean here, click my name
i just wish that whoever built that building had put as much thought and care into it as jennie is putting into furnishing it!
m, i know you want the chandelier.
Granite counter tops and stainless steel appliance . .. . YAWN! More boring mass produced mass marketed condo...
I thought the Flicker feature was for fabulous decoration, whereas this is an empty and generic condo.
Sorry, I read too fast; I was exhausted by the BEFORE photos and missed that there are AFTER photos. Woops!
This is just one more in a long string of crappy condos that keep forcing the price of Chicago housing through the roof. Instead of taking a peek at all of the gorgeous, glorious and historical bungalows, two flats, three flats and brown and greystones that we have throughout town, someone gets all giddy over some bland rectangle that some stupid developer is selling for waaaaayyyyy too much money.
Anyone who buys one of those pieces of crap is to blame for the lack of decently priced and spacious living spaces in and around Chicago.
Chicago,
I know what you mean about granite and stainless appllances. I moved in with my boyfriend's place and that's what is featured in his new place. I'm not a fan, but I also have to say I don't know what I'd do differently in this place or a possible new place in the future. Do you have any ideas or what's inspiring you now that's modern, cool and timeless?
I haven't lived here for long and would love to have a lead on places to start looking for changes and inspiration.
Thanks!
