Welcome to Mindy's closet. Such organization! Such space! Such a uniform collection of hangers! The clear shoeboxes with snapshots of what's inside - that really got us. We'd heard of this idea before, but are far too scattered (and have far too many shoes in far too small of a closet) to make this organizing tip a reality. Nonetheless, we were happy to see it here in practice in Mindy's closet. Photo below the jump of Mike's closet:

Thanks, Mindy & Mike, for the peek inside!

Courtney, I got dark wood hangers from Nordstrom Rack for $3.99 for a pack of about 4 or 6. I like the quality better than Ikea's.
i always wondered if people actually do the "photos of shoes on the shoeboxes" thing. I have all the plastic boxes for mine but I dont think it's ideal because I still stack them. I probably have too many shoes but still...there is a serious hole in the design market for a good solution
I've been looking for dark wood hangers, can you share your source and their price? Thanks.
What closet system is this? It looks like Elfa, but I can't quite tell.
courtney,ikea has them cheap!
Lucy, I don't think it's Elfa. Looks like Closetmaid or similar, but I suppose it could be 5yr+ older Elfa. I worked with Elfa for a few years at the Container Store as a closet planner and have installed it dozens of times.
Hi everyone, thanks for all the comments on our closets! We rent our loft and the closet systems were already in place when we moved in, I think they might be closetmaid. The black wooden hangers are from www.hangers.com and can be purchased in bulk. Although it looks great, stacking the plastic shoe boxes can be tricky. We ended up putting the most worn shoes on top for easy reach.
