Mike and Mindy have a great sense of style, as we've seen in the past on AT:Chicago. They recently added two new chairs to their loft dining area (and one to their bedroom home office) - we really like the look. Jump below for the details:

Here's their photo caption from Flickr (which pretty much says it all): Economic Stimulus Check + 40% Trade Discount = New Dining Chairs

And a third chair makes it's home at the desk in the bedroom: We bought 3 of these Eames beauties but decided that we liked just 2 at our dining table.
The chair they chose is theThe Eames Aluminum Group management chair from Herman Miller - a classic that we're sure they will always find a place for in their home.
Thanks to Mike and Mindy for tagging the photos with "apartmenttherapychicago"!

Big deal. So they bought some Eames chairs.

The one at the desk doesn't even have casters. Not everyone gets a 40% trade discount too...

It looks like an office meeting table to me, not a dining area.

40% trade discount is super lucky!

I'm really not trying to be a hater, trust me I love room and board too! I just like to mix in other pieces. And yes it looks like someone's office.

Some people just don't get it.
I dig it!

I love those chairs with that table, even if the deal isn't exactly replicable.

I must be one of those people that doesn't get it.

I get the Eames, but seriously loved the Ant chairs that you had before. They were better scaled to the space, and a much more unusual choice than Eames.
oh and PS to everyone - 40% trade discount is off the list price, not the lowest retail price, which is 38% off list. So you could walk into DWR and get the same chairs for only 2% more than Mike and Mindy.

This apartment has always seemed a bit off to me - great individual pieces, but too many iconic designs fighting for attention, the sense of proportion/textures/colours don't quite mesh... Money can't buy style.

Should have picked a color other than black.

The bases of these chairs seem rather busy, and overwhelm the slender table base. I like the chair much better in the office.

Thanks AT for another post - although I'm tired of hearing people complain about our very loved home. So here's the story - two of our wooden plywood chairs broke in half - they were only $40 a piece and 3 years old, so it was time. When we were down to two chairs, we started shopping around. We looked at tons of chairs before we settled on these. We are waiting for for our new condo to be finished, so most of our design decisions result from thinking about a master plan. We are getting a much larger dining table for the new condo, and since my goal would be to work from home (eventually) we wanted chairs that would function more like a conference room and double as dining chairs. We debated other colors, but want to purchase 1-3 more chairs in the future to complete our "conference table". Therefore, black was the only leather option that would be guaranteed to be around 3-5 years in the future. It is also timeless, as we don't know what our design style or trendy colors will be like in 30-50 years. I imagine that these chairs will out live us. As far as the trade discount, architects can buy furniture pieces for themselves (not resale) and get roughly 40% off the DWR price. These were about $600 with discount, much less than DWR.

A few things:
1. I don't get some of the hate in the comments section. If you don't like the choice of chairs, then it's fine to express that opinion. But, it seems like some of y'all are hating (expressly or impliedly), because, god forbid, the owners purchaased these chairs at a 40 percent trade discount. That's kinda lame, in my opinion.
2. To the homeowners: yeah yeah yeah, you're tired of hearing people complain about your loved home. Are you joking? Sorry, but you did put your home out there on multiple occasions for comment, so you're gonna have to deal with both positive, as well as negative, comments that come your way.
3. As for my opinion, I like their choice of chairs, although I probably would have chosen a different color, white, but I could see the reason why you wanted to ensure that you would be able to purchase matching chairs in the future.

I felt bad at first as soon as I read the post and started to read the comments. AT kinda put this couple on the spot and set them up for complaints/insults without them submitting themselves for the post.
That said, I don't care for the owner's reply. You put your home on the internet (be it flickr) for show-and-tell. Do we all need to love it? You must know by now that the internet is full of strong opinions.
I think what a lot of people are reacting to here is AT's choice to feature this rather than the owner's choice of purchase. Is this really post-worthy? I too am in the camp of who cares that some people I don't know bought chairs. Had they salvaged some chairs or refurbished them or whatever it might have been interesting. Also, on a site where probably most people would die for eames (based on how many begged for the free lounge chair) yet would probably not be able to afford eames, it is obnoxious to feature this particular post because the couple got an insider's deal. Thankfully I'm not interested in eames mostly as I am in the group that would probably not be able to afford them (even with a snooty discount), but it sucks to have perks like that rubbed in your face. Isn't this site a place for everyday people with everyday perks supposed to go for inspiration? Although, funny enough I didn't even care that they got a discount that we don't have access to, until I read their we-actually-got-them-much-cheaper-than-DWR-thank-you-very-much reply.

The homeowners need to get over themselves. YOU granted permission for your place to be shown to the masses. Is everyone supposed to love it?! I mean these are only 2 of the 18,976 Eames chairs we've seen on this site. Can you blame people for not being blown away?

I vor one love it. Do listen to the haters who like the creep out of their clutter whenever anything modern is posted. I bet that if they had the guts to post picks of their place we would find plenty to criticize.
Besides, for every well designed Eames chair posted on this site thatere has been at least one so called 'creatively salvaged' piece that looks like it should have stayed in the dump.

I don't understand what's wrong with buying pieces you love. We should all love our homes and fill it with things that make us happy. People ought to be more considerate when commenting about someone's home.

What color yellow did you use on the walls?
It is a little suspect that an entire post is dedicated to people getting new chairs and chairs that are so commonplace in mid-century homes and magazines that they really have low interest level in terms of style or ingenuity. I like them fine, though not loving the black, but odd for an entire post.
Not a fan of the decorating in this place. Odd. But I do like the yellow walls. The rest of the design doesn't seem to comport though.

I just went back and saw the old pix of your living room and noticed that not only do you have a Nelson Bench but also (my personal coveted item) the Noguchi coffee table! Do they both function as coffee tables or do you use the bench as seating?

Well, I don't give a crap if they bought new chairs or not or how much they paid for them, I love the apartment.
