Heather Ulrich tagged great photos of her open plan Chicago loft apartment that is full of huge windows, sunlight and greenery. Just what we like to see on a chilly winter morning. Heather's done a really nice job creating distinct areas in the open space by using color and layout rather than walls.
Lots of photos of Heather's style below the jump:

Heather says, "We removed ugly cabinet doors, papered the back wall of all the cabinets with banner paper, removed the collapsable wall-mounted table (and covered the large holes in the wall with a paper-and-artist-tape border), and converted an old medical table into a workstation."

"Talk about a corner office -- it's behind the television armoire; bathroom is on the right. The door is a 2nd exit door."

A question from Heather: "That wall-mounted silver thing needs to come down, but we haven't decided with what to replace it ....?"
Thanks very much to Heather for tagging her photos with "apartmenttherapychicago" !
really nice place! i like the bedroom paint color a lot. the little floor cushion seating area is adorable!
Finally we get to view the fabulous, funky and tasteful Heather apartment! How about some art behind that bed? Or a screen-turned-headboard? They had some cool bed treatments in Domino a couple issues ago.
Nice job, Heather. The place looks as good in photos as it does in real life.
Well Done Heather - your place looks fabulous! And I love the stained glass window in your dining room (in the additonal images). What about a series of 3-4 artistic holiday pics framed in identical white frames for above your bed? Pottery Barn had nice simple frames last time I checked.
I love the "wall-mounted silver thing"! If you centered the bed under it (i.e. centered the bed on the wall) and had halved the bedside table and had half on each side I think it would look wonderful.
Lets give credit where credit is due. The subtle yet unmistakebly masculine undertones that infuse this space simply must be attributed to the deft aesthetic styling that only a man's touch can provide. Bravo, Johnny! Bravo!
Fabulous apartment; even better stamps.
How would the silver thing look with a viny plant dangling down from it? I love the simplicity of the bedroom-- it's what bedrooms should be about. But plants can add some life Anyway, the place looks amazing. The space has that hard to reach blend of stylish and classic, contemporary but with a ot of personality-- I'm so envious. Do you do friends' apartments too?! You should consider a career change. You're really talented!
Your place looks warm and comfy. The exposed brick has a nice color as well.
I was wondering, did you paint your exposed ductwork or was it like that when you moved in? I've been thinking about treating mine but not sure about the best method and product for doing the job.
