apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Flickr Finds: Solaana's Jewelry Storage

Here's a new pic from Solaana that we found in Flickr tagged with "apartmenttherapychicago." We love this idea - simple, inexpensive, and very smart...

She took a white accordion peg rack and tied what looks to us like fishing line between the pegs. She hung necklaces and bracelets on the pegs and used the fishing wire to organize earrings. We think it looks great!

Thanks, Solaana!

i had a friend that did a similar but simpler thing - strung some wire between two clear thumb tacks pushed into the wall. all of the wire hook earrings hung neatly on it.

That looks incredible. It's unique and beautiful.

When design takes priority, the result is often strange closets.

I have a similar jewelry display above my dresser, but I have corkboard and thumbtacks. I hang necklaces off of the tacks, and then strung twine to hang dangle earrings off of. Regular post earrings I just stick right into the cork. The look could definitely be improved by covering the cork with fabric and using something prettier/cooler than thumbtacks. The one thing I don't like like about Solaana's display is that you have to take off some earrings to get to others- too much effort for me :)

I do this, too, except mine is vertical instead of horizontal and hang necklaces and bracelets from the pegs.

I use a large unpainted wooden rack from a fabric store for my costume bracelets and necklaces. I think it is intended for spools of thread.

Yeah, I've been wondering what to do about post earrings (I'm solaana - that name was apparently taken which means I've probably registered here under that name and forgotten the password) and I like the cork idea a lot. I was thinking of chicken wire, because I have few more hangy-earrings, but really, I only wear two or three different pairs of earrings on a regular basis, so I don't really have the problem of having to remove a bunch of earrings to get at ones in the back. rach1007, what do you do about the backs of post earrings?

OK in a closet. Not so much on a wall.

I have this same idea hanging on my wall on an accordion peg rack I had since childhood. Its in a spaced tucked into the side of my vanity so you can't see it when you walk in only when you walk over to that area.

@ seaside: my bedroom is a closet, so it's really all the same at this point.

I have a hanging 'system' called a "Ear-Nest" that I 'found' at the Goodwill a few years ago. The larger one slots for post or clip earrings. You have to leave the backs on the post so the can stay in the slots and some pegs on the bottom for necklaces. The smaller one is just for earrings. It came with a card and a website listed as www.ear-nest.com. For whatever reason, I don't notice any dust. I match earrings to moods or outfits so I change them daily. I have it hung on the back of my bedroom door.
