Veronica von fantastique has been doing the cure. She tagged some photos of her space with "apartmenttherapychicago" which show her progress. She put together the Marimekko wall hanging above the bed and says, "I got this today in the mail finally after a lot of UPS drama and put it together and hung. It actually only took about an hour and i think it turned out super nice. It is around 5ft x 3ft. "
She also has made this nifty wall-hung office organizer. She plans to put it above her computer desk and shares all the details of the diy below the jump...
Make your own:
1) Light masonite board from Home Depot, cut to whatever size works in your space. This one is around 24" x 40"
COST: $3.00
2) Russell + Hazel blank calendar pages to fill in from Container Store.
COST: $24.95
3) Some Real Simple office items from Target: a tear off to-do list notebook and pencil holder.
COST: $7.99/each
4) Translucent plastic pockets from Container Store:
COST: $7.99 (for three)
5) Oversized Binder clips from Dick Blick Art Store.
COST: $0.50/each
6) Large disc hook from Container Store.
COST: $4.99
7) A few packs of the 3M mounting strips....there are all different sizes etc to choose from.
COST: about $5.00 a package, I used one larger sized pack for this project.
Great idea, Veronica. Thanks for tagging the photos!
I had an idea to do something like the wall organizer but for make-up, bathroom items. I got the idea from my gym where they have lucite containers with cotton balls, razors, etc. stuck to the wall. First, I don't want to attach the boxes/containers to the wall because I'd like to take it with me (I rent). Anyway, seems like this idea could be used in a variety of contexts. I've also thought of doing it for kitchen utensils. The challenge for me is how to attach the boxes so that they can be removed for cleaning - any ideas?
clea, you could probably do something similar to what veronica did with the lucite boxes, but just attach them with large clips. That should allow for easy removal for cleaning, and the clips would hold for bathroom stuff (makeup, cotton balls, etc.). For kitchen stuff, I really like what Megan at notmartha did in her tiny kitchen. You can see a picture with really detailed notes here: http://flickr.com/photos/notmartha/211331862/in/set-72157594231147080/
Really nifty desk organizer and an easy project to put together using your instructions. I really love the "For Like Ever" poster and have seen it before. Where is it from?
Lisa, the poster was featured on a Domino cover a few months ago, and is now featured in bedrooms, like mine, and beyond across the US, the first edition sold out in record time.
You can buy versions at vllg, http://www.vllg.com/products/.
Bedroom looks great!
That's so funny, I made a wall hanging from the same Marimekko fabric in May. I thought I was so cool. I guess I'm not that cool. But good choice, nonetheless! Your apartment looks great.
haha hi. thats my little bedroom.
sorry for the crappy pictures, they were just snapshots i wanted to share with the photo pool i didnt think theyd get on here haha.
glad you guys like it though. the room is only about halfway done though.
I am planning to do a colored cork wall out of my two sliding closet doors next.
and yeah i got the poster off the site zurie posted above after seeing it on the domino magazine cover
Veronica, can you share more details on the Marimekko? like cost and where you ordered it from? Thanks.
Julie, you can get tons of fun Marimekko fabrics and screens at txtlart.com. And they'll send you great samples, too. I'm making a bathroom border out of some fabric I ordered from them and wrapping and stapling it to some plywood. I have a ton of textile sites that I've been collecting off of AT, design*sponge and other posters. Superfantastic! Good luck!
