Greenhouse Retreats
Flickr Finds

It's a gray day here in Chicago, and we're in the mood for a virtual vacation. Filled with plants and flowers, these greenhouses offer a bright spot of color.

In his poem, The Greenhouse, Bertolt Brecht describes walking, exhausted, into a tent-like greenhouse where "where the debris of exotic flowers lies in the shadow of the worn canvas." This image of a greenhouse as fragile, a little disheveled, and filled with half-light is exactly the type of retreat we'd welcome today.

Although many of the greenhouses shown above are far from disheveled, they're all shelters for beautiful and fragile collections of plants. To read the full text of The Greenhouse by Bertolt Brecht, click here.

WOW!! Can't wait to get a weekend home. Definitely need to build a greenhouse!! I don't think I'd ever leave it.

I wish I could sip my tea inside that greenhouse right now!! So beautiful ~~

I never realized I need a greenhouse until now but clearly, I do. A terrarium just isn't cutting it.
