032807jasonlewislogo.jpgWe recently revisited the work of Jason Lewis in the March '07 issue of Chicago magazine.

032807lewissidechair.jpgA small blurb on the local furniture designer in the Made in Chicago section on p. 70 points to Lewis, a Rockford native, as an apprentice to local Bauhaus guru Berthold Schwaiger. There's a lot to love, like the stunning low side chair, pictured here, which is made from white oak and ash ($950). Other favorites below:

Each of the designer's pieces (including seating, tables, and storage units) is built by hand in his Chicago studio, customized to order according to a client's needs and specifications.

These are beautiful- both airy and substantial. Thanks for the link.

It was always my intention to take classes at Bauhaus- such beautiful work being done there - but they have suspended instruction in the wake of Shwaiger's passing. I would love to find another place offering furniture instruction for the artistically inclined.
