Aluminum Pergola

pergop62308.JPGJust $700 in materials and a way with welding created this modernist pergola with universal charm. It caught our eye and the last few rays of afternoon sun.

Full disclosure: this is no ordinary DIY. Creator is Stephen Mohring, a Carleton College art professor and sculptor. Wife Josie Rawson is a master gardener.

Labor isn’t the only savings here. We had a similarly sized wooden pergola estimated at $5000 last summer.

Wow - this is gorgeous!

I think it would be nice if they could integrate a shade system or other some sort of retractable fabric awning rather than using that market umbrella. It looks off - like opening an umbrella inside your house.
