Bromeliads: Low Maintentance Houseplants

We stopped by Sprout Home a couple of weeks ago and took home some Air Plants. We've accidentally murdered many houseplants, but these are so easy to care for that they continue to thrive despite our black thumb. A quick web search revealed to us that Air Plants come from the Bromeliad family, which also includes the pineapple.

Since Air Plants store water in their overlapping leaf bases, they require minimal care. Soak them in a bowl of water (as shown in the photo above) for a half an hour once a week, or mist them regularly. Air Plants don't require soil and can be displayed in a bowl, vase or almost any place you want to put them.

We've spotted them at a few stores in Chicago, including Sprout Home and RR#1 Chicago.
