Modern Outdoor Spaces

If you're looking for a basic backyard design plan, modernism can bring chic simplicity to the outdoors. The focus on geometric forms can also make maintenance easier for people that don't have the greenest of thumbs. In the photo above, a basic lawn uses boards laid directly onto the ground to create a minimalist "patio" for the outdoor dining set. More ideas from AT and around the web below...

Meg and John's Rooftop Deck uses little details to create a welcoming space: the furniture is arranged to create a conversation area, the side tables provide a place to put your drink, and stones and other natural elements add depth to the design.

Since outdoor cushions are shown in the above photo (Meg and John's Rooftop Deck) I thought I would as this question here. For outdoor cushions, can they REALLY be left outside all the time (brought in during the winter months of course), or is it best to only bring them out when you are going to use them? I keep seeing them on sale and they often say they are mildew resistant, etc. I'm afraid I will ruin them if I leave them outside in the rain though. Any comments are much appreciated!

I'd also love to know if those cushions can be left outside too.
