Outdoor Home: Roxy's Rooftop Room

2007-06-22-orangedoggie.jpg

Name: Roxy
Location: Omaha, Nebraska

Jealous. Roxy (AT Name: Object:ORANGE) sent us photos of her envy-inducing modern roof deck. We have to start off with a shout out to the adorable family member lounging on the loveseat and will follow up with more photos below the jump...

We like how Roxy has made a complete (and comfy-looking) outdoor room that fits into the surroundings so well. The architecture of the buildings looks to be very new and industrial influenced - the pedestal table and the square, simple-lined seating works nicely here. The colorful pillows, astro-turf (?) rug, umbrella and all of those fabulous blooms brighten up all that silver and grey of the building materials. Nice choices all around.

Beautiful space, Roxy.

The sculpture adds the perfect touch to soften the look and add interest.

This is the second time I've seen outdoor space with dark chairs set against white seat cushions, and the look is crisp and sharp.

Roxy, how do you keep the outdoor cushions clean on a regular basis? How about umbrella care (I'm afraid to get canvass outdoor umbrellas b/c keeping them clean may be a hassle).

To answer your question, gekko, from the photos, it looks like the white seat cushions may still be wrapped in plastic. Not that I'm one to criticize... I still haven't taken off the plastic film off the face of my 2-year-old iPod...

Thanks for the comments!

Yes kbc, you are correct...the plastic is still on the cushions. We bring the cushions into the house when we are not on the roof deck. There is an empty lot to the west of us where there will be more rowhouses built. Construction on the units slotted for that empty lot will not begin until September. And since we are essentially on the prairie (Omaha), it gets very windy. Wind dirt = dust, dust and more dust. Until we have our first house party or those rowhouses get built, the plastic will probably stay on.

gekko --- as far as the umbrella, it is a nylony canvas umbrella. Plus, we went with a darker color because of all the dust and dirt. Hope this helps!

Katie,

Thanks for the compliment on our roof deck and dog. He is just one of our two. I wanted to pose them both for a picture, but that didn't quite work out as you can tell. :)

Hi Richie Rich,

We purchased the furniture on Amazon.com. It was a gamble buying it sight unseen, but it turned to be awesome.
