Reader Tip: Guerilla Gardening

2006-06-21-gg.png

Luke wrote to say: "The guerilla furniture post along with the greenest thumb contest jogged my memory to remember an NPR article on Guerilla Gardening in London. Gardeners in London organized and go out in the middle of the night and plant gardens on public land to beautify the city. It's something I think we should start in our respective AT cities."

The goal: to make public space more attractive. The objective: 100 recorded acts of guerilla gardening across 4 continents by September 2006.

Thanks Luke - cool story and site! Has anyone heard about any local Chicago "guerilla gardening"?

I haven't heard of any such "guerilla gardening" here in Chicago, but if anyone wants to start such an endeavor, count me in...

hehe...reminds of some of the first people I met in San Francisco. It was a bunch of artists in a giant house they all shared in an alley off of the Duboce triangle.

However, instead of planting trees, they would try to make ends meet by stealing small plants and flowers out of Golden Gate Park, repotting them and then selling them.

Please don't flame the messenger.

Hey there,

I'm organizing a GG outing, and all are welcome to join. Probably in the Wicker Park area in the next week. Please drop a line if you're interested.
