We walked through Wicker Park last night and a sign posted on a nearby fence caught our eye. It was information on the Wicker Park Garden Club's Garden Socials.
An old-fashioned sounding event held in a thoroughly modern neighborhood, the socials are a monthly chance to tour the Westfall Gardens (in the park) and three private gardens in the surrounding area. Each month features different home gardens (city lots to small courtyards) in addition to a historic home tour.
According to the site, "Many of the gardens were designed by the homeowners. Meet the gardeners, learn how they designed their gardens, learn horticultural techniques that the gardener's employ in their gardens, and then enjoy refreshments and meet other gardeners from around the Chicagoland area."
The Garden Social tours meet at 1:45 and last from 2pm - 5pm. If you head to the park early there is live classical music in the park from 10am - Noon on each of the Garden Social dates.
Upcoming dates: July 16, August 13, and September 24. $10. Reservations required.
