The Smart Home is a fully-functioning, three-story, modular “green” home — built right on the Museum’s grounds — that highlights unique eco-friendly technologies for the 21st century. In addition, the winner will receive a night’s stay at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Chicago and dinner at the Park Grill located in Chicago’s Millennium Park...

On the Smart Home tour, you'll discover just how easy, beautiful and high-tech it can be to live green. The Smart Home interior features an open, airy layout; bold colors; modern furniture; and innovative gadgets and products. The kitchen countertops are made with colorful recycled glass, the garage features a do-it-yourself workshop where you can repurpose old items, the nursery boasts a bamboo crib, and much of the furniture is from resale shops and has been recovered or repainted to give it a new life. A high-tech home automation system greets you when you walk in the door with updates on energy usage, and occupancy sensors in the home can monitor activity and automatically turn off lights, the television and music when no one is in a room.

Rules: The contest begins today, March 19, 2009 and ends on March 26, 2009 at 12:01 AM EST. Apartment Therapy will choose one winner at random; winner will receive a tour of the Smart Home: Green + Wired exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry as well as a the hotel stay and dinner package. Please only one entry per person per giveaway post. Duplicate entries will be discarded. Make sure the email address you use when you enter is valid; that's how we'll contact you if you win. Winner must claim their prize within three business days after the date of notification of such prize. A winner's failure to respond to the prize notification within the specified three business days will be considered to be a forfeiture of the prize and an alternate winner may be selected from the pool of eligible entries. If an entrant is found to be ineligible, an alternate winner may also be selected from the pool of eligible entries.

To enter, you must be a U.S. resident, age 18 or older. Employees, partners and vendors of Apartment Therapy and their immediate family members are not eligible to enter. We will disqualify any entries that we believe are generated by scripts and other automated technology. When applicable, the winner may be required to execute and return within five business days an Affidavit of Eligibility and a Liability and Publicity Release to be eligible for the prize or an alternate winner will be selected. Product can only be shipped within the U.S.
