3-D Porcelain Tiles

turfwho71108.jpgSummer shelter mags always feature cottages with some artful, oddly appealing use of shells. Yet they never felt quite at home in the Midwest.

These oceanic-even-when-they’re-not Wall Tiles might be the answer. Organic, serene and edgy at the same time, they don't even sit on a mantle.

Sculptor Heather Knight and her Element Clay Studio have been seen on AT before with nature-inspired bowls. Like them, the Wall Tiles are made completely by hand out of porcelain clay. They feature a keyhole for hanging.

Tiles are available in two sizes, but there's also work aplenty (bowls included) at her Etsy shop. And if geographical appropriateness matters to you, fungi and turf are pretty universal.

The full-sized tiles measure 9-inches square and 3-inches deep.

It would be a pain to clean these, plus they are a little creepy looking.

I'd like to think these could make nice accents, but am having a hard time picturing a large scale installation. I'm mostly picturing an ocean themed bathroom from hell.

These remind me of the barnacle vases at Mermaid Hut:

check out Claire's work here: http://www.clairepalastanga.com/forms.htm
I think her older work combines the delicate forms of nature with precise detail. Her are more fine art related and less crafty.

RE:Not hard to clean ... just use the sprayer in the kitchen sink!

You would need to wipe the dust off because it would just hide in the cracks and dry onto the clay. Hopefully not breaking it as you scrubbed it.
You would have to make sure the screw holding it was very secure. The weight is an issue. If they fell..that would be the end of it.
