After dinner at a friend's last night, she busted out her new Pavina coffee cups from Bodum. We've seen similar double wall glasses before, whose claim to fame is keeping hot things hot and cold things cold. But so far we've only ever used them (a different, plastic type) for cold. These Bodum glasses were so light I almost didn't believe they were glass, and the outer glass temperature so neutral, I only knew my coffee was hot by the rising steam.
And, when filled, they look so pretty.
A little lesson on this delicate, durable piece: "Bodum's insulated glassware is made from durable Borosilicate glass. Borosilicate glass is a strong heat-resistant glass that weighs less than traditional glassware. Used to make scientific lab glass, borosilicate glass (medical grade glass) is stronger than traditional 'soda-lime' glass and can be used for everything from drinkware to cookware."
The Pavina comes in five shapes and sizes, specific to your drinking needs: pairs range from $11.95 to $39.95. Also available at Crate & Barrel.
damn. if only i were born rich rather than beautiful. ;)
If only I were rich OR beautiful :)
God, those Bodum coffee cups are sexy! I'm such a sucker for clear glass coffee cups.
I love bodum's glasses. They gernerally are very durable, but I've read some reviews that the pavina ones break rather easily. That makes me sad, because they look lovely. Can anyone confirm this?
Katie-We've had two of these in our office for over a year. They are used everyday (usually someone drinks coffee out of them, sometimes water) and thrown in the dishwasher at the end of the day and are still going strong!
I've been using these every day for about 6 months now and none have broke. They really are brilliant!!
Got some for christmas, started using them after it got warm and i have to say iced drinks do not drip or sweat no coaster needed.
I love these glasses because there is nothing quite like them visually. Unfortunately, I have lost them to breakage in shipping, in the dishwasher and accidentally tapping one with the other while putting them away in the cupboard. After they all broke I decided to not replace them but instead purchase regular glassware. They have worked out much better.
i had the same problem with these. we bought eight bodum glasses (two different sizes) and all but one have broken! they are pretty and they worked very well, but i'll never buy them again =/
same here. mine are all breaking. I have about 5 left. But the little shot glass makes a cute salt cellar.
WHAT a pity. So chic and lovely.
Yup, I had a set of two pint glasses - one I knocked over, but the other broke just from dropping ice into it. We still gave my dad a set, but with such a high warning to be careful that I think he's afraid of using them!
Same experience as everyone else here. The Pavina's I bought about a year ago have been slowly breaking - one in the dishwasher, one when I dropped ice in, etc.
I absolutely love the looks and practicality of these, but they break way too easily.
