Porcelain from Bailey Doesn't Bark

1-10-08porcelain1.jpg

These porcelain dishes from Bailey Doesn't Bark are made by designer Re Jin Lee, who hand paints each piece before firing it. We love the quirky, poetic details of these dishes, especially the simple depictions of the changing seasons and the little colonies of ants drawn onto cups, saucers, and spoons. Dishes are microwave-safe and range between $12 and $100...

Are you kidding me? ANTS on my dishes?? That would be NO NO NO NO NO with a bit long EWWWWW at the end. I would completely freak out every time, and my guests would totally freak out, every time.

This would maybe be okay if you were an entomologist, but even then...

I'll take the four seasons one, and give the ant pieces to someone I don't like.

This is that cutesy stuff that I hope was going away 2009..its that twiggy, deer fawn, tiny flower, birds on a wire.. much of the stuff on Esty. believe me you will not want it in 15 years.
I am so happy I had the sense to collect good dishes in my 20's because lets face it Raymond Loewy designs for Rosenthal china will never be out of style.

Hey, now! Don't be badmouthing the twigs! Or the ants. I found a great ceramic rat bowl on Etsy the other day, too. Pestilence, even teeny weeny twee pestilence, is a perennial in my design garden.

etsy is essentially a craft site. craft has always tended to stray towards cutesy.

much of the stuff on etsy makes me want to puke. i think the ant idea is great, however.

if you don't like it - go make yourself a cup of chamomile tea with your non-dated china instead.
