Modern Chairs to Suit the IKEA Liatorp Table?
Good Questions

lia091509.jpgQ: My husband and I recently purchased the Liatorp pedestal table from Ikea. We are trying to find the right chairs to match that will fit in our small space. We were thinking about something modern, but weren't sure what kind of style would work. Do you have any inexpensive suggestions?

I don't know about your personal style but I'd pair the panton chair with the table, they're comfortable, stackable and relatively inexpensive at DIR or online.

try breuer chairs - modern, clean lines, comfortable seat and pretty compact.

Define "inexpensive" please.

The Panton chair is $260 (from DWR). The Starck Ghost chair is $330. The Breuer chair is $130-40 (depending on the color). I wouldn't define any of these as inexpensive, but people's budget for this kind of thing vary greatly.

Meant to say, "varies greatly."

I have that exact table! I bought it off Craigslist. I paired it with some dark wood and brown padded seat "leather" chairs from Pier One that are quite comfortable. It doesn't LOOK very fancy though. It would probably look better if it was a lighter colour chair. Feels nice though.

Check IKEA online. All these are less than 100 and might look great. I used 4 Herman in a kitchen for several years and they were quite comfy.

Gilbert, Harola, Harry, Herman and Linus.

Good luck, enjoy your dining

I would get leather parson-style chairs in a strong color.

The starck ghost chair can be had for $160. That is a new chair, retail price. If you look around you can get it for less. I almost always see them in vintage shops. I've seen Panton chairs sold for 50% off too. You may have to wait until you find a sale or a resale shop with stock, but they can be had for much less than the new retail cost.

There are a few options available at Ikea:

I all depends on whether you want to go with black, white, wood tones or something totally different. Upholstered seating might take up too much 'visible' space.

Bernhard - black and steel for $119, modern
Hallsta - not sure if it's wicker or banana leaves $99.99
Gilbert - wood tones for the seat, metal frame below, modern looking, $49.99 - likely available in different finishes, or you could paint to match any colour
Tobias - $99.99, clear acrylic seat, metal frame on the bottom

CB2 does a "pseudo" Ghost chair--acrylic back and seat with chrome legs that is 199 each.

That said, I think your best bet is a Parsons style chair.
