CHI Good Questions: A Source for these Chairs?

2008-01-25-chairquestion.jpg
Chin Yu is hoping for some answers from the AT eagle eyes: "I was wondering if anyone knew where these dining chairs are from? This is a picture from an apartment advertisement. The table looks like it is from West Elm, but I have never seen these chairs there. Thanks for the help!"

It looks like they are the Blu Dot ChairChair (http://www.bludot.com/Browse_Products/Seating/product/ChairChair) with the Blu Dot CozyCozy cover (http://www.bludot.com/Browse_Products/Seating/product/Cozy_Cozy)

Wow, that was fast! Thanks Moraija, and Janel for posting my question! Has anyone tried putting the CozyCozy on any other chairs?

np: Those Cozy Covers are very cute, and dress up an otherwise simple chair. Anyone know how washable they are?

That's Blu Dot's chair chair. Don't buy them. They're absolutely horrible.

I'm really liking the artwork display above the couch!

I just read your comments about the chairs and table ricestein. Sorry to hear about your dining set. =( You'd think that a $129 chair would hold up better. Another reason why I want to see if there are other chairs that are similar in style but lower in price that I could use the Cozy Cozy with.

I don't know, but I like the arrangement of the record covers!

I have two very sturdy and comfortable Ikea chairs that look almost just like these except that they have a small cutout at the bottom of the back, and the back and seat are two pieces. They are the Fritz chair at $99 (the black leather pad just sits on the chair, it isn't fixed). http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80110311

If the Blu Dot chairs really are horrible, you could put the cozy on the Ikea ones...

How about that great couch. Anyone know where that's from?

ricestein--

How exactly are they horrible? Uncomfortable? Paint chips? Fell apart and killed a favorite aunt?

Don't just dis and run!

I've never heard anything bad about Blu Dot before, so I am extra intrigued.

We bought the Nick table and six ChairChairs in September or October of last year.

The chairs are pitting (from the grommets on the backs of blue jeans, etc.) and have many surface scratches. We did buy the white chairs, which may have something to do with it--white shows everything. But we've also had one chair crack in the corner and another with bent legs. When we called Hive Modern to complain, the customer service woman said: They're nice guys, but it's basically Ikea furniture. The store refused to let us return them telling us in no uncertain terms that you get what you pay for.

The design is beautiful and the chairs are comfortable, but it's frustrating to see that Blu Dot is everywhere, sold alongside Herman Miller et al, and of relatively poor quality.

Yes, I got that picture from an advertisement for Amli on 2nd street. For their smallest apartment (626 sq ft), rent ranges from $1265 to $2860 per month. That's kind of crazy for Austin if you ask me.

That is the very top of the rental market for Austin. Mostly we're seeing rents around $1.25-1.50psf.
