Maggie Ann sent in a good question: "I saw the post on the Alameda flea market, and am wondering if there is anything similar in Illinois or Wisconsin. The only thing I can think of that comes close are the Kane County Flea markets...are there any others? "
One of our favorite in-town shopping events is the Chicago Antique Market, held the last weekend of the month from May through October on Randolph in the West Loop. Now entering it's 5th season, the market is a good way to spend a weekend afternoon - we've been going for years, since it began. The first Market of the season is coming up on Memorial Day weekend, later this month. Note: The name of the event is changing to the Randolph Street Market this year.
AT flea market fans, please share info on other good markets with Maggie Ann in the comments...
i have never been there... but have been wanting to combine a visit to mies van der rohe's farnsworth house and this sandwich antiques market on one of these weekends.

it'd be a little bit of trek, and i have no idea of the quality or style of the finds there, but i still may check it out.

What about the Sandwich flea? It's a few hours' drive outside of Chicago but I've found a lot of really great things there...if you're looking for MCM furniture I would go elsewhere but in terms of tchotchkes, it's a gem...

The Elkhorn flea/antiques market is awesome! The dates this year are May 18, June 29, August 10, September 28. It's at the Walworth, WI county fair grounds. You have to spend the whoel day...there's just too much. It's a bit of hit or miss in terms of authentic MCM, but there's a great deal of other good finds.

I second that, avimom! The Elkhorn flea market is amazing. I live in San Francisco now and have been to Alameda a few times, but being from WI I still miss the expansiveness, wide variety of antiques/treasures, and chocolate eclairs. =) Elkhorn is only about an hour from Chicago and it's well worth the drive.
